Pakenham Racing Tips for 3.8.2021 - Top VIC Tips

Pakenham hosts a premier midweek card on Tuesday, including runners from top Victorian stables. Punters can bet on the likes of James Cummings and Ellerton/Zahra-trained runners, so there is plenty of value to be snapped up with our four best bets.
  • Race 1 12:30pm AEST – No. 13 Spicy
  • Race 3 1:30pm AEST – No. 4 Stelvio
  • Race 8 4:00pm AEST – No. 1 Court Deep
  • Race 9 4:30pm AEST – No. 12 Widaad

Race 1 12:30pm AEST – No. 13 Spicy

The Ellerton/Zahra-trained three-year-old will enjoy the sharp drop in class and it could have an immediate impact. She finished fourth on debut at Caulfield behind Arcaded before running seventh behind Ingratiating at Flemington. The form out of both contests has stacked up brilliantly since and it’s much better than maiden-level racing.

After opening at $2.80, the well-bred daughter of Fastnet Rock has drifted a touch. However, we expect plenty of money to come her way on race day. Punters should lock in the value and she could start around the $2.20 mark. Barrier eight won’t worry her and the experienced Mark Zahra takes the ride.

Race 3 1:30pm AEST – No. 4 Stelvio

The four-year-old gelding owns only one placing from four starts, but he has been facing tough fields in Sydney and the switch to Victoria helps. The James Cummings-trained son of Lonhro finished second behind Vanderland fresh up in March before running at Randwick and Newcastle. His last two starts have been below par, but they were solid runs and he hasn’t faced a field this easy throughout his career.

Damien Oliver rides and having his experience is a big boost. We’re not surprised by the short odds available and the current quote should only get shorter on race day. Lock in the odds now for this runner that should rise through the grades once he has broken through.

Race 8 4:00pm AEST – No. 1 Court Deep

The five-year-old gelding is fresh up and he looks ready to strike. He is a two-time winner from 10 starts and he drops in grade after contesting BM68 grade at Ballarat in February. Returning from a spell won’t be an issue and we think running on the synthetic surface will do him plenty of good.

He gets a valuable 4kg claimer in the saddle and the Maher/Eustace-trained gelding looks the hardest runner to beat. His best form comes over this distance and punters should be happy with the odds available. We expect them to shorten on race day and they are already starting to firm.

Race 9 4:30pm AEST – No. 12 Widaad

Widaad scored an impressive win on debut at Wangaratta and we expect that form to hold up nicely. The Hayes-trained three-year-old scored by 1.5 lengths after drawing wide and she made her own luck, which is always a good asset to have. The well-bred daughter of Snitzel handled the rain-affected track superbly and she looks well-placed on the synthetic.

She has been one of the better-backed runners of the day. Bookmakers opened her at $4.80 and those odds have come tumbling into $3.20. It’s a serious move but not overly surprising. She has the most upside in this field and we expect the odds to continue to firm.
