Pakenham Race 3 No. 8- Motcombs
Motcombs can go close in Race 3. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper was an improver when second up over the 1000m at Cranbourne on January 11, despite doing a few things wrong in the run when 4th behind Magna Mak. The daughter of Snitzel settled back in the small field and raced erratically but closed off well. Interesting to note that the runner-up and the 3rd horse have since come out and taken out their next starts. She went three lengths slower than standard last time, which is three lengths above the class average. From the leading stable, she should have improvement to come at her third run, while she draws ideally in barrier 3 with Celine Gaudray to ride.
Pakenham Race 5 No. 2- Myers Reward
Myers Reward shapes as a solid contender in Race 5. The seven-year-old returned from a three-year hiatus last year and was excellent throughout his preparation, finishing in the top three in five of his last six runs, winning twice over the 2000m. He has had two runs this time in and has been caught wide but brave in both of those, finishing 3rd at Warrnambool before a last start 5th over the 1800m in a BenchMark 70 at Flemington. The Archie Alexander-trained galloper drops back to BM64 and just needs to find a spot early on from barrier 12.
Pakenham Race 6 No. 2- Arizona Activist
This looks to be a suitable race for Arizona Activist. The Team Hayes-trained galloper was caught wide in a BenchMark 70 at the track and trip on January 10 before just tiring late when 4th behind Typhoon Harmony. A winner of three from six at the distance, the son of Written Tycoon drops in grade and at the same stage of his last preparation, he was an improver on benchmark figures when 3rd at Sandown. He draws to be within striking distance from barrier 6 and will be ridden by Michael Dee, who strikes at 22% for the stable, providing a 26% profit on investment for punters.
Pakenham Race 7 No. 8- Hey Now Hey Now
Hey Now Hey Now can go a couple of spots better than a debut effort that saw her finish 3rd behind Vaderlee over the 1400m at Cranbourne late last month. The Robert Hickmott-trained galloper settled back and kept coming in that race to land within two lengths of the winner, going 2.4 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. With any improvement, she should be hard to beat with Craig Williams to ride.
