Race 2: No.2 Aged Care
The Kris Lees-trained galloper is third-up today and looks well placed for a tilt at back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Brutal gelding showed a ton of improvement off his unplaced first-up effort when he took out a Class 1 Hcp over 1208m at Port Macquarie.
Aaron Bullock had him box-seating on settling before easing off heels and taking over in the final 200m and went on to take the race.
Bullock retains the ride for this assignment and from gate six maps to settle better than mid-field.
Even fitter after two runs back and back on his home track today, he looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 5: No.2 Lennox
Three starts into this campaign, the Team Archibald-trained Lennox returns to the country scene here and looks a serious contender for the major prize in this event.
Last start, the British imported gelding was having his third run on Australian soil when he finished mid-field in a BM72 over 1900m at Canterbury.
Applying different race tactics, Chad Schofield had him leading on settling and was holding his own until the 200m mark where he was headed off but fought on gamely to be beaten less than three lengths on the line.
The stronger city class company and race tactics took its toll that day.
He draws well in gate two here giving the new pilot Aaron Bullock options at barrier rise but he is expected to settle better than mid-field.
This is a big drop in grade here and back against country class opposition, he should prove hard to beat in this contest.
Race 6: No.4 Dubai Gold
Local trainer Nathan Doyle saddles-up Dubai Gold here who is second-up and looks poised for a big performance in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Pride Of Dubai gelding was fresh off a 16-week spell and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m at Scone.
Ash Morgan settled him in the box seat where he travelled well to the turn, then in the run home, held his own and finished off strongly, without pressuring the first two across the line, still beaten just a length in the end.
Drawn in gate five today, Morgan steers the ship again and maps to have the three-year-old settling better than mid-field.
This is a slightly easier mission against BM58 company and fitter for one run back, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
