Murray Bridge racing takes place on Wednesday, May 14 with an 8-race program set down for Murray Bridge racetrack.
- Race 5: No.3 Mohite
- Race 6: No.2 Mapleway
- Race 8: No.3 Dragonface
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Murray Bridge racetrack.
Race 5: No.3 Mohite
Recently acquired by local trainer by Garret Lynch, Mohite is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to produce his best in this event.
Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding has plenty against him when finishing fifth, here in a BM60 over 1100m with Emily Finnegan in the saddle.
He drew the carpark in gate 12 and unable to cross early, leaving him trapped wide the entire trip with the final 200m taking its toll on him.
He drops back to the 900m sprint here and finally draws a gate where he jumps from gate three and maps to be parked just behind the speed with Caitlin Tootell as the new rider.
Meeting slightly easier company here in a BM56, Tootell’s 2kg claim sees the three-year-old carrying less weight today and fourth-up, he will be at his peak.
Fitter and better suited here, he should give this contest a real shake today.
Race 6: No.2 Mapleway
The Strathalbyn-based galloper is third-up today and has shown he is ready to step-up and take on new challenges now.
Last start, the National Defense gelding showed plenty of improvement from his first-up effort when he broke through for his first career win in a Maiden Plate, here over 1400m.
Felicity Atkinson was legged aboard for the first time and rode the gelding a treat, settling him just behind the speed, one off the fence, before edging into the race in the run home and finishing best to claim a half-length victory in the 14-strong event.
Atkinson steers the ship again today where the three-year-old draws ideally in gate two and should be settling in the first half-dozen, on the fence.
With a trouble-free run here, third-up and even fitter, he looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.
Race 8: No.3 Dragonface
Team Grantham saddle-up Dragonface here who is second-up and capable of figuring in this event.
Last start, the Sir Prancealot gelding resumed after six months off the scene and caught the eye when finishing mid-field in a BM56 over 1100m at Oakbank.
The 1100m was always going to prove too short for him, he did well in the run home and in the end, was beaten only two lengths on the line with Andrew Stead in the saddle for the first time.
Second-up and fitter today, he draws well in gate four and maps to settle near field with cover as Stead sticks with him for this assignment.
Placed at his only previous start at the track and is already a winner when second-up, he lines-up here looking a worthwhile investment to claim the honours today.
