Murray Bridge racing takes place on Wednesday, July 2 with an 8-race program set down for Murray Bridge racetrack.

Race 3: No.8 Layin’ Up

The Jeff Searle-trained Layin’ Up is third-up today and looks set to shake the maiden monkey and take out this event.

Last start, the Cable Bay mare improved off her first-up third in a 1200m Maiden on this track when she beat all but one home in a Maiden Plate over 1411m at Mt. Gambier.

Settling back in the field, she was three-wide to the turn before fanning even wider and taking over inside the final 200m but was run down late by one better on the day.

Rochelle Milnes was aboard for both of those efforts and is at the helm again today where the mare draws gate six and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with cover.

Placed when third-up last preparation and has seen two podium finishes already on the Murray Bridge track, the four-year-old should be fighting fit and ready pounce in this contest.

Race 5: No.8 Somewhere Soon

The locally-trained galloper has impressed after four starts this time in and with conditions to suit here, looks a genuine winning chance in this event.

Last start, the Impending filly came off her maiden win at Gawler when she took on a BM58 and in the conditions, finished mid-field with Taylor Johnstone on board again.

The Heavy 9 track and wide draw (gate 9 of 10) didn’t help her chances that day where she settle back in the field and despite making some ground late, was never a winning chance that day.

Facing BM56 company today, she should appreciate being on top of the ground again with a Good 4 being forecast for the day.

Johnstone sticks with the filly today where she gets the gun-run from gate one and does no early work to settle near mid-field with cover.

At her peak after four runs back, the three-year-old looks set to bounce back in this contest.

Race 6: No.3 Duo Perna

Sandie Brennan saddles-up Duo Perna here who is three starts back from a 10-month absence and should be ready to produce his best in this event.

Last start, the Ambidexter gelding stepped up in grade and wasn’t disgraced when finishing mid-field in a BM64 over 1540m on wet track at Morphettville.

Drawing gate 9 of 11, Teagan Voorham settled him second last before improving to the turn then running home fairly, beaten less than four lengths on the line.

Conditions are quite different today where he will be in his element on top of the forecast Good 4 track and Voorham remaining aboard for the ride.

Drawn out again in gate 10, she maps to settle near mid-field and drops back to the 1400m trip, scoring both career wins over this distance.

If the five-year-old can settle quickly and be in touch with the speed on the turn, she has the fitness on her side and is capable of finishing over the top of them in this contest.
