Murray Bridge racing takes place on Saturday, August 3, with a 10-race program set down for the Murray Bridge track.
  • Race 2: No.8  Tipsy Vixen
  • Race 4: No.2  Riverplate
  • Race 6: No.1  Klabel
  • Race 7: No.5  Ballon D’or

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for the Murray Bridge racecourse.

Race 2: No.8  Tipsy Vixen

The Morphettville-based Tipsy Vixen has found her mojo lately and looks well placed here to go on with it in this event.

Last start, the Foxwedge mare was shooting for the hat-trick when she ran into one just a little better on the day, finishing second in a BM68 over 1600m on her home track.

She settled near the rear and was caught three and four-deep to the turn but showed plenty of fight in the run home to claim the silver medal in the 13-strong field.

Ideally drawn here in gate two, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen with cover this time and after the claim, carries 5kgs less than last start.

The four-year-old won here over the mile three starts back and with a trouble-free run, she looks a serious player in this contest at odds.

Race 4: No.2  Riverplate

The Michael Hickmott-trained Riverplate has had two starts for a new stable and looks more at home here in this event.

Two starts back, the well-bred Flying Artie gelding resumed off an 18-week spell and made his stable debut on this track when he clobbered his rivals over 1400m, putting more than two lengths on them over the line.

Then last start, Hickmott made the 750klm trip to Narrandra and sent him around in Open company and as a $2.40 favourite, failed to fire in the run home, finishing unplaced over the mile trip that day where the Heavy 9 conditions appeared to take its toll.

Back on home soil here, he is joined by Todd Pannell who boasts a 28% strike rate with the stable and steered him to that victory two starts back.

Already a winner at the track and at the 1800m, fitter for two runs back, he should be there at the finish.

Race 6: No.1  Klabel

Team Jolly saddle-up Klabel here who has come back in career-best form and looks a solid chance of bringing up the hat-trick in this event.

Last start, the Vadamos gelding made it back-to-back wins when he got the job done by taking out a BM78 over 1200m at Gawler.

Jake Toeroek had him box-seating on settling until he took over inside the 150m mark and held them all at bay to take home first prize.

Apprentice, Taylor Johnstone is the new pilot for this assignment and after her 3kg claim, the galloper carries less weight than his last start.

His early gate speed should see him overcome the wide draw as he maps to settle in the first half-dozen.

The five-year-old is a true track specialist here, winning three of his four visits to the track, including two at the 1200m distance.

At his peak here after three runs back, he looks the one to beat.

Race 7: No.5  Ballon D’or

The Clarken & O’Shea-trained Ballon D’or is second-up off a 12-week spell here and ticks enough boxes to be very interested in her winning chances in this event.

Last start, the Lord Of The Sky mare was on fresh legs when she finished just behind the placegetters in a BM74, here over 1100m.

She settled well back at the start but put in the big ones in the run home, arriving just a little late, having to settle for fourth place, beaten just over a length on the line.

Stepping-up to a more suitable 1400m here, regular rider, Todd Pannell returns to steer the ship, having already partnered the mare in all four career-wins to date.

She does no early work from gate two and already a winner when second-up, she looks right in the mix in this contest.
