Murray Bridge racing takes place on Wednesday, April 9 with an 8-race program set down for Murray Bridge racetrack.
- Race 5: No.13 Shimshalar
- Race 7: No.3 There Goes My Hero
- Race 8: No.14 The Doll
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Murray Bridge racetrack.
Race 5: No.13 Shimshalar
The Sharni Julian-trained galloper is high-flying this time in and looks well placed here to carry on with the good work in this event.
Last start, the Shalaa mare came off a second-up win at Mt. Gambier where she beat all but one home in a BM548 over 1000m at Edenhope.
Fourth-up today, she draws gate seven and maps to settle better than mid-field with Todd Pannell in the saddle for the first time.
She has placed twice in as many starts at the track and at her peak today, looks a genuine contender for the major prize in this contest.
Race 7: No.3 There Goes My Hero
The Gawler-based galloper is third-up here and sporting a major gear change today, looks a serious threat to this field.
Last start, the No Nay Never gelding came off an unplaced effort first-up at Balaklava when he showed plenty of improvement to finish a close-up third in a BM56 over 1900m at Oakbank.
With apprentice Taylor Johnstone aboard, he drew the fence and settling in front before being run down late over the final stages of the race, sticking on for the minor prize in the end.
He draws a middle gate here and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover as Zephen Johnston-Porter is legged aboard for the riding duties today.
Sporting winkers for the first time, the four-year-old is already a winner when third-up and given a trouble-free run here, looks in the mix for a win in this contest.
Race 8: No.14 The Doll
Phillip Stokes saddles-up The Doll here who is three starts into this preparation and looks well placed here to compete for the major prize in this event.
Last start, the Starspangledbanner mare was third-up and coming off back-to-back podium finishes when she missed a place in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Strathalbyn.
Up against it from the outset, she missed the jump and settled last in the 11-strong field before making up some ground in the run home and managed to beat half the field to the line that day.
She draws gate seven for this assignment and with Lachlan Neindorf remaining in the saddle, maps to settle mid-field with cover.
Fourth-up and at her peak today, she looks in the mix among these and should be there at the finish in this contest.
