Mt. Gambier racing takes place on Wednesday, July 10, with a 9-race program set down for the Mt. Gambier track.
  • Race 1: No.5 Falling Leaves
  • Race 5: No.1 Call To Glory
  • Race 7: No.6 Crackle ‘N’ Burn
  • Race 9: No.3 Perdition

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for the Mt. Gambier racecourse.

Race 1: No.5 Falling Leaves

Local galloper, Falling Leaves is third-up today and making her seventh attempt at shaking off the maiden monkey.

Last start, the Jimmy Creed mare did well to finish sixth after drawing the car park (14 of 14) in a 1400m Maiden in this track.

With Dom Tourneur aboard, she was never on the track, caught four-wide without cover to the turn, then switched back to the inside where she was blocked for a run before finally getting clear but had no fuel left for the final 200m, finishing mid-field across the line.

She drops back to the 900m sprint today and has Caitlin Jones as the new pilot for this assignment.

Her luck at the barrier draw continues as she jumps from gate nine (of ten) but in the smaller field she will have the opportunity to cross and settle better than mid-field with cover.

Fitter for two runs back, she looks a solid chance of claiming victory today.

Race 5: No.1 Call To Glory

The Tom Dabernig-trained Call To Glory makes the trek from Victoria here and in top-shelf form this time in, looks the one to beat in this event.

Coming off a six-length maiden win at Edenhope, the Encryption gelding made it four-straight podium finishes when he beat all but one home in a BM58 over 1000m on the synthetic track at Ballarat.

He drops back to the 900m sprint here with the Class 1 event looking no harder than his last start.

Apprentice, Tala Hutchinson is the new rider who brings a 3kg claim into the race.

Jumping from gate four, the three-year-old maps to lead them on settling and if he is left to set the pace, he can give them all something to chase.

Race 7: No.6 Crackle ‘N’ Burn

Another from the Dabernig stable is Crackle ‘N’ Burn who has three starts behind him this preparation and should be at his peak for this event today.

Last start, the Irish-sired gelding tried to lead all the way at Bendigo but from a wide draw, carrying 60.5kgs, found the 1300m a little too taxing in the BM64 contest and finished four lengths behind the winner.

He is Victorian-based but is no stranger to the Mt. Gambier track, boasting a win and a minor placing in his two prior visits.

He draws wide again today in gate nine (of 12) with Tala Hutchinson in the saddle for the first time and after her 3kg claim, the three-year-old carries 7kgs less than his last start.

He is stepping up in grade here as he faces BM70 company for the second time but with the big drop in weight and conditions to suit, he looks right in the mix here.

Race 9: No.3 Perdition

The Mitchell Freedman-trained Perdition is another Victorian visitor who is three starts into this campaign and will be looking to bounce back in this event today.

Last start, the Hellbent gelding came off a BM58 win over 1200m at Swan Hill when he looked all at sea in a Restricted 64 contest over 1350m at Donald.

With Alana Kelly in the saddle, the four-year-old drifted back to the tail soon after the start and failed to run on from there, finishing a long last in the end.

He was vetted after the race but no issues were found.

The stable has put the blinkers back on him today and the track conditions (Soft 5) should be more suitable for him, after both career wins came on firmer ground.

Nash Rawiller’s son, Campbell has his first ride on the galloper who is making his track debut today.

Forgiving him for that last effort, he can give this contest a real shake at odds.
