Morphettville racing takes place on Saturday, August 10, with a 9-race program set down for the Morphettville track.
  • Race 3: No.2  Governor King
  • Race 4: No.7  Rebel Consortium
  • Race 7: No.6  Dunmaghlas
  • Race 8: No.5  Karacasu

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for the Morphettville racecourse.

Race 3: No.2  Governor King

The Henry Dwyer-trained Governor King has made a promising start to his racing career and looks well placed here to go on with it in this event.

Last start, the well-bred Fiorente gelding rang-up win number two when he destroyed his rivals in a BM64 over 1746m at Sale.

On a Heavy 10, carrying 59kgs, Ben Allen had him sitting just behind the speed, then inside the final 250m, he exploded to the lead and gave them a galloping lesson as he crossed the line 7.5 lengths ahead of the 10-strong field.

These are strong credentials coming into this event which looks a slightly easier affair as Neil Farley takes the reins for his debut run on the Morphettville track.

He draws the outside gate (10) here but will cross and settle near field with cover in the 10-horse event.

In top-shelf form after four starts back, he should prove a handful to hold out here.

Race 4: No.7  Rebel Consortium

The locally-trained Rebel Consortium is second-up here and ticks enough boxes to suggest she can bounce back in this event.

Last start, the Rebel Raider mare resumed off a six-month absence and clearly in need of the run, finished down the track in a BM64, here over 1250m.

Apprentice, Taylor Johnstone was aboard for the first time and on a Heavy 9, from gate 10 (of 14), conditions were against her that day.

She meets similar company here but steps-up to the more suitable mile trip with Johnstone sticking remaining aboard for this assignment.

She does no early work from gate three and is already a winner when second-up.

Given a trouble-free run here, another second-up win would not surprise and she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.

Race 7: No.6  Dunmaghlas

Murray Bridge galloper, Dunmaghlas is second-up here and looks poised to go one better in this event.

Last start, the well-bred Highland Reel gelding was fresh off a 19-week spell when he beat all but one home in a BM68 over 1000m at Bordertown.

In the unsuitable Heavy 8 conditions, he ran home strongly but was unable to reel in the winner, having to settle for the silver medal that day with Alice Lindsay in the saddle.

Lindsay sticks with him here as he draws gate five and maps to settle near the speed.

Already a winner when second-up and a winner at the track as well, he lines-up here as one of the main chances and at odds.

Race 8: No.5  Karacasu

Team Jolly saddle-up Karacasu here who is second-up and looks a serious contender for the major prize in this event.

Last start, the Headwater gelding resumed off a nine-week break and trying to lead all the way, was nutted on the line, beaten a whisker in Open company, here over 1100m.

A lack of race fitness was all that came between him and victory that day.

Callan Murray is the new pilot here where the six-year-old is already a two-time winner when second-up and boasts track specialist status, with three of his four career victories coming on this track.

A trouble-free run here should see him there at the finish.
