Mornington racing takes place on Monday, May 12, with an eight-race program set down for Mornington racetrack.
- Race 6 No.2- Williamstown
- Race 7 No.8- Mystery Blonde
- Race 8 No.2- West Indies
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Mornington racetrack.
Race 6 No.2- Williamstown
This looks to be a suitable assignment for Williamstown. The five-year-old tends to save his best for Mornington and is unbeaten in two goes at the track and trip. He accounted for them here two starts ago before heading to the Caulfield Heath where he was held up in the small field before landing 4th behind Corona Lad, beaten two lengths. The 3rd placegetter out of that has since scored at Bendigo. Williamstown drops back in grade for this and draws barrier 1, while he gets the 1.5kg claim for Thomas Prebble. He has had success with the stable in the past, providing a 138% profit on turnover.
Race 7 No.8- Mystery Blonde
Mystery Blonde might get conditions to suit in Race 7. The four-year-old tends to get back in her runs and this race sets up nicely with a number of these that like to go forward, injecting some speed into the race. Mystery Blonde made good ground at Cranbourne two starts ago for 3rd then was back on a slow tempo at Sale when not enjoying much room en route to placing 6th behind Zouper Fund. They should stretch out a bit here and she worked home well in a BenchMark 64 at her only go at the track and trip, which was last month.
Race 8 No.2- West Indies
This might be the one for West Indies to chalk up the second win of his career. The Mark Walker-trained galloper was placed in his first two runs at his current preparation before tackling the VRC St Leger (2800m), running a respectable 4th behind American Wolf. He was jumping from the 2000m that day and looked to be in contention as they straightened but just ran out of steam late in the piece. This looks easier and the 2400m will be no problem.
