Moir Stakes Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

The Moir Stakes is always a must-see race, which kicks off night racing at Moonee Valley for the new season.

The field includes the likes of Profiteer, Wild Ruler, The Inferno and Ballistic Lover, so the quality is there for the feature sprint.

We look at the form of every runner in the 2021 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The James Cummings-trained sprinter is always around the mark, but we question his will to win. He hasn't won a big race for a while now, despite being close. We're prepared to leave him out of calculations at the price.

Wild Ruler

A lovely type from Sydney and it took Nature Strip to get past him last start. Form behind one of Australia's best sprinters is excellent form, and he should have no problems handling the tight-turning Moonee Valley. Punters get value odds for Wild Ruler, and we wouldn't be leaving him out of calculations.

The Inferno

We didn't have much respect for Singapore form before The Inferno won impressively at Moonee Valley last start. The five-year-old let down nicely to beat a similar field, and having winning form at this track is ideal. Money has come for him, so we wouldn't leave him out.

Portland Sky

He ran second behind The Inferno last start, which we think is a good form guide. He was always going to need to run and punters get double-figure odds to enjoy. Portland Sky goes into our calculations.

September Run

Nice third placing last start but she has disappointed as an older type. Drawing the rails won't do her any good, so we can't have her this time.

Swats That

In the same boat as September Run. She looked like a smart type in the making this time last year, but she hasn't done much since. Drawn wide, and despite having Damien Oliver in the saddle, we don't think she wins.

Brooklyn Hustle

We wouldn't be ruling out Brooklyn Hustle, who will sit out the pace and soak up the early speed. She will need luck due to her racing pattern, but she should be hitting the line with purpose.

Ballistic Lover

Double-figure odds for Ballistic Lover is good shopping. She is a six-time winner from 13 starts, and her last-start win at Moonee Valley was a good indication of what she can achieve. Include in selections.

Miss Albania

She is speedy, but we don't think she's up to Group 1 level. We would be surprised to see her fighting out the finish.

Punters should always respect the Chris Waller factor, but we don't think Shaquero has much chance of winning. The three-year-old colt is a three-time winner from seven starts, but those wins came in age-group company. He could be lacking speed fresh up.

Profiteer is another age-group star, but we think this colt is a different animal. He has shown electric barrier speed to date, which is a massive bonus around The Valley. We expect him to jump on the speed and show a good kick into the home straight. If Jye McNeil can cross the field, we think Profiteer, with 52kg on his back, is tough to run down.

Profiteer is our best bet for the 2021 Moir Stakes. He is a speedy colt who could mature into a top-level sprinter.

We're not leaving out the likes of The Inferno and Wild Ruler, who are suited to 1200m and beyond, but they are capable of sprinting.

Best Bet: Profiteer Moir Stakes Winner @290 at Sportsbet - 5 Units
