Mildura Racing Tips 5.10.2021 - Follow the Maher/Eustace stable

Mildura hosts an eight-race card on Tuesday, October 5, and we have our four best bets available. Three of our four tips are trained by the Maher/Eustace stable, so they're worth following, alongside jockey Harry Coffey, who rides all three.
  • Race 1 1:30pm No. 1 Exgames
  • Race 3 2:30pm No. 9 Kit and Caboodle
  • Race 6 4:00pm No. 5 Polina
  • Race 7 4:30pm No. 7 No Way Ever

Race 1 1:30pm No. 1 Exgames

The Maher/Eustace-trained three-year-old finished fifth on debut behind Invincible Caviar, which should be a good form guide this season. Invincible Caviar, and the second-placed Xtra Gear, have since run well in stronger grades. The son of Extreme Choice was a double-figure chance at Sale, but he has been hammered in the betting since markets opened on Sunday. He opened at $3.60 and is now $2.50, which is a sizable move.

Barrier two is ideal and having Harry Coffey in the saddle helps. It’s not the strongest maiden field we have seen, so expect Exgames to produce the goods.

Race 3 2:30pm No. 9 Kit and Caboodle

Kit and Caboodle didn’t show anything on debut when running 10th at Werribee, but the three-year-old colt improved significantly to run third last start. The son of Sebring was only 2.8 lengths behind the winner, and we expect form behind Serious Sarah and Vinlago to stack up nicely throughout this season. That run came in April, so he has been spelled throughout the winter, so he should be strong and ready to fire.

The early betting support is a fantastic sign. He opened at $3.70 with bookmakers and is currently trading at $2.80. It takes some serious move for that move, so there is confidence and it’s likely coming from the stable. Keep Kit and Caboodle safe.

Race 6 4:00pm No. 5 Polina

Polina has always been around the mark throughout her career, so we’re confident of another top effort. The four-year-old mare owns one win and six placings from nine starts, so she is consistent and conditions are ideal. She has placed in both starts over this distance and she has yet to finish worse than second in four starts on a good racing surface.

Punters should always respect the Maher/Eustace stable, especially at the midweek level. It’s also another premium ride for Harry Coffey, so the pairing could have a big day at Mildura on Tuesday. Her odds have drifted out slightly from an opening quote of $2.25, but it’s no cause for concern.

Race 7 4:30pm No. 7 No Way Ever

We’re going with another Maher/Eustace-trained runner in No Way Ever, who scored impressively on debut at Pakenham. The three-year-old filly scored by a length over Tan Tat Beau before finishing sixth at Sandown, but she faced stronger opposition and not everything went her way during the run. She couldn’t get clear in the straight, so we expect her to roll forward from the wide draw and be tough to catch.

She showed that excellent barrier speed on debut, so if the Maher/Eustace/Coffey combination is firing on Tuesday, they could have a huge day. All three runners have been well backed and No Way Ever should attract plenty of attention on race day.
