Makybe Diva Stakes Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

Group 1 racing continues in Melbourne with the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

All the rage has been Caulfield and Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise, who has been heavily backed. However, the likes of Tofane, Mo'unga, and Inspirational Girl present a challenge.

We look at the form of every runner in the 2021 Makybe Diva Stakes.

Sir Dragonet

The one-time Cox Plate winner has class on his side but is unlikely to trouble them here. He is likely going to need the run.

Fifty Stars

He typically improves with a run under his belt but we weren't impressed with his most recent effort. We expected him to make ground in the straight, but it was just a plain effort.

Keiai Nautique

We loved the way the former Japanese runner hit the line at Randwick last start. He will appreciate the distance and racing at Flemington, so we love the odds available. Don't leave him out of calculations.

The Chris Waller-trained runner isn't going well enough this preparation to consider. He's better around the provincial circuits, and this level of racing might be beyond him now.

Mount Popa

A nice type in the making but this race might be too soon for him. We would prefer to see him in something much easier, but we admire the confidence of the connections.

The boom runner of the field after producing some stellar efforts in Brisbane. Looks set for a big race win, but this distance could be short of his best. The betting moves are stout, which makes him an interesting runner.

Explosive Jack

A promising stayer that could find most of these too brilliant over the distance. Look for him to win a big race later in the spring.

Johnny Get Angry

Having a run to boost the fitness levels before tackling the longer distance races later in the spring. The odds tell the story.

That was a nice effort behind Behemoth last start and we're prepared to give him another chance. He made good ground late in running, and the Kiwi is too good to completely leave out.

We were surprised he handled the rise in class last start, so credit goes to the four-year-old. He is an exciting type that isn't being respected as much as he should. We wouldn't be leaving him out at the price.

She didn't do much wrong last start and that is a good betting guide. She will appreciate the run, so expect her to finish off strongly with Damien Oliver riding.

Had little luck behind Behemoth last start and she still ran third. Untried over this distance, but she looks likely to handle it. We wouldn't be leaving her out, and she could firm with bookmakers on race day. Tofane is a legitimate win contender.

Inspirational Girl

Winning form is good form and Inspirational Girl owns nine wins and three placings from 13 starts. That form hasn’t come at this level, but the Perth runners have a good record. Leaving her out of calculations would be a mistake and she loves this distance.

We think Incentivise and Tofane will be tough to beat, but we're going with Keiai Nautique at the value price. The former Japanese runner was strong to the line last start, and he should only get better.

Bookmakers have value odds available, so back him on an each-way basis.
