Russian Escape can be an improver in Race 3. The Mark & Levi Kavanagh-trained galloper attracted support in the betting first up at Geelong over the 1300m but settled last on a slow tempo. He made up plenty of ground in the last 400m, hitting the line well to finish 6th without much room late in the piece, going down by less than two lengths. He should enjoy the step up to the 1600m for this assignment and will strip fitter.

Marilyn’s Edge can end the day a winner. The Shawn Mathrick-trained galloper has been solid at her current preparation in harder company than this. She just peaked late in a BenchMark 70 at Echuca two starts ago before tacklig the 1400m at Flemington last time, settling up front on a hot tempo before fading late. This is much easier and the drop to the 1200m suits better.
