Kembla Grange Racing Tips 16.09.2021 - Back James McDonald

Kembla Grange hosts an eight-race card on Thursday, September 16, and we have our four best bets available. Our tips include three runners ridden by James McDonald, who is considered Australia's best jockey. He often picks up multiple wins throughout the week, so he's one to follow.
  • Race 2 1:25pm AEST – No. 4 Delexo
  • Race 3 2:05pm AEST – No. 3 Different Strokes
  • Race 6 3:55pm AEST – No. 1 Head Legislator
  • Race 7 4:35pm AEST – No. 10 Beep Test

Race 2 1:25pm AEST – No. 4 Delexo

The four-year-old gelding is a two-time winner, including last time out at Muswellbrook. He won by four lengths in a dominant display with Koby Jennings in the saddle, so getting James McDonald to ride is an added bonus. He is a son of Exosphere who had been in disappointing form, but the talent has always been there.

Both wins came over this distance and on good tracks, so the improving track conditions only help his cause. Bookmakers opened him at $1.90 and he has firmed a fraction into $1.85, but holding steady is what we expected at the short odds. Put Delexo on top as he has more promise than his opposition.

Race 3 2:05pm AEST – No. 3 Different Strokes

Different Strokes is another runner looking to go back-to-back. The Kim Waugh-trained four-year-old took the gap and burst through to win by 1.3 lengths at Wyong, which suggests this level of racing won’t hold him for very long. It capped off two placings to start his career, including a second placing at Hawkesbury.

The son of Hinchinbrook will enjoy getting the inside draw and it’s another premium ride for McDonald. He has a nice book of rides and Different Strokes could be one of his best. After opening at $4.20, his odds have unsurprisingly firmed into $3.70.

Race 6 3:55pm AEST – No. 1 Head Legislator

Matthew Dunn lines up the four-year-old gelding who continues to run second. Head Legislator owns six second placings from eight starts, so he’s consistent, but punters are hoping he can break through for the victory on Thursday. The son of Headwater ran behind the likes of Bruckner, who subsequent won a stakes race in Melbourne. He also has form behind Tight Ropes and Orbisyn, so the form checks out.

Barrier four should see him find a good spot in running and having Nash Rawiller in the saddle is ideal. $3.80 is a fair price for a runner who typically finds one better, but we’re keeping the faith.

Race 7 4:35pm AEST – No. 10 Beep Test

We were impressed with the winning effort of Beep Test at Gosford last start and she can produce consecutive winning efforts. The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old ran second on debut before taking on a tough field at Randwick, but her return effort to score by a half-length last start was a good sign.

The daughter of All Too Hard settled back before hitting the line impressively, so her turn-of-foot is likely to win her many more races. It’s another top-level ride for James McDonald, and carrying 55kg brings her right into contention. The current odds are likely to shorten on race day, so punters should lock in what’s available.
