Australian Racing (ALLSPORT)
Ipswich racing takes place on Wednesday, May 14 with a 9-race program set down for Ipswich racetrack.
- Race 3: No.2 Ritualize
- Race 5: No.4 New Joy
- Race 9: No.4 Last Chance Saloon
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Ipswich racetrack.
Race 3: No.2 Ritualize
The Stuart Kendrick-trained Ritualize has his second race start here and looks every chance of going back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the Written By gelding made his debut in the city where he proved too good in a Maiden Hcp over 1110m at Doomben.
Kyle Wilson-Taylor rode him a treat and on a Heavy 9, he took over soon after straightening and held off all the challenges to claim the winner’s cheque in the end.
He drops back to country grade here where Wilson-Taylor sticks with him and he secures the gun-run from gate one as well where he maps to be box-seating on settling.
Surely just bad luck can keep him from claiming another gold medal in this contest.
Race 5: No.4 New Joy
Michael Nolan saddles-up New Joy here who is second-up today and has given every indication she has come back in winning style and looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Heroic Valour mare resumed after six months off the scene and made it look easy, taking out a BM70 over 1200m at Toowoomba.
Maddie Wishart had the reins that day and after drawing wide had the mare settled mid-field before winding her up in the run home and arriving in time to claim the spoils for the race.
She steps-up to the 1500m trip today on a track where she has saluted once previously and from barrier eight, maps to cross and settle near mid-field with new rider Emily Lang at the helm.
Already a winner when second-up, a trouble-free run here can see her fighting out the finish in this contest.
Race 9: No.4 Last Chance Saloon
The David Vandyke-trained galloper is second-up today and with gear changes and a new rider in place, he is sure to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Maurice gelding was fresh after seven months away from the track and clearly in need of the run, finished unplaced in a strong Class 5 Hcp over 1200m at Doomben.
Angela Jones steered the ship that day where the five-year-old was never in the hunt, beaten a long way from home.
A big improvement can be expected here as he drops sharply in grade and leaves city class company behind him as well.
The full tongue tie goes back on for this assignment as Noel Callow takes charge and from gate four, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover.
Placed at the track previously and already a winner when second-up, he looks set show a better performance here and should be running on at the business end of the trip.
