Hawkesbury racing takes place on Thursday, July 11, with an 8-race program set down for the Hawkesbury track.
  • Race 3: No.1 Barazin
  • Race 6: No.1 Tulla Park
  • Race 7: No.6 Setombe
  • Race 8: No.10 La Belle Claire

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for the Hawkesbury racecourse.

Race 3: No.1 Barazin

The Kris Lees-trained Barazin is third-up today and having missed just one podium finish in his five career-starts to date, he lines up looking a solid chance of adding another one to his resume.

Last start, the French-sired gelding did well to grab third prize in a Class 1 Hcp over 1600m at Wyong.

Sitting just behind the speed, he was blocked for a run in the home straight but once he saw daylight, he hit the line well and was beaten just over a length on the post.

He steps up to the 2000m journey today where the former French galloper has placed at his only start at the distance.

Jason Collett is the new pilot and with conditions to suit, the four-year-old strips fitter for his first two runs on Australian soil and looks set to play a major role in the outcome of this contest.

Race 6: No.1 Tulla Park

The Goulburn-based Tulla Park is three starts back from a five-month absence and showing positive signs of improvement, looks a solid chance at big odds today.

Last start, the Shaft gelding looked back on track when her beat all but one home in a BM82 over 1000m at Wagga.

With regular rider Beany Panya on board, he settled back in the field and travelled wide most of the way but still have something left to pass all but the winner before hitting the line, beaten just half a length in the end.

Here, he drops sharply in grade as he faces BM64 competition and has Panya sticking with him as well.

At his peak today, he looks right in the mix and is well worth an each-way ticket at double-figure odds in this contest.

Race 7: No.6 Setombe

James Cummings saddles-up two runners here as we run with Setombe who is three starts back from a spell and looks set to bounce back today.

Last start, the Irish-sired filly came off back-to-back top-two finishes when third-up she found the city class competition a little too strong, finishing down the track in the BM72 event over 1300m at Warwick Farm.

Today she returns to provincial company and drops back to BM64 grade with Ash Morgan returning to steer the ship (after riding her to victory in a Maiden Hcp, here three starts back).

She has drawn wide here in gate 11 (of 17) but ticks all the other boxes that suggest she can get the job done today.

With a trouble-free run and cover during the race, she looks the one to beat in this contest.

Race 8: No.10 La Belle Claire

The Team Cave-trained La Belle Claire is four starts into this preparation and looks well placed here to cause some headaches for her opposition in this event.

Last start, the Highland Reel filly finally shook off the maiden monkey when she broke through for her first win, taking out a 1600m Maiden at Wyong.

With apprentice Molly Bourke aboard, she crossed from her wide gate (10 of 11) to lead on settling and with plenty of gas in the tank, gave them the slip on straightening and raced away to score by more than two lengths on the line.

She makes the natural progression to Class 1 company today and gets the gun-run from gate one where she maps to lead them on settling and has Bourke backing-up for the ride.

If they leave the three-year-old alone to dominate proceedings and set the pace, they might find her hard to run down.

At (currently) double-figure odds here, she looks a little overs for this contest and is well worth a ticket each-way.
