Race 3: No.4 Cuban Rain
The Team Price-trained Cuban Rain is in great touch this time in and sporting a major gear change looks well placed to chalk-up win number two in this event.
Last start, the Manhattan Rain filly came off a big maiden win at Kembla Grange (on a Heavy 8) when she stepped-up to Class 1 company and finished mid-field over 1400m (on a Good 4) at the same track.
The stiffer competition and dry track looked her biggest enemies that day as she laid down the challenge in the run home but was labouring over the final 100m, beaten three lengths in the end.
Brock Ryan was aboard on both occasions and remains in the saddle for this assignment.
The filly draws a sticky gate here in barrier nine but looks set to cross and settle near field with cover as she takes on similar company over the 1400m again.
The forecast heavy track fall into her lap today as the stable also fits a tongue tie for the first time and under these conditions, she looks a serious chance of bouncing back in this contest.
Race 6: No.3 Fly Scotty Fly
The Rosehill-based galloper is second-up today and looks set to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Brazen Beau gelding resumed after more than five months off the scene when he beat all but one home in a BM64, here over 1100m with Jace McMurray in the saddle.
He drew the outside gate (10) that day and trying to lead all the way, the lack of race fitness too its toll over the final 200m where he was unable to hold off the challenger, but fought on well to take home the silver medal in the event.
Dropping back to Class 1 competition here, the three-year-old also comes back to the 1000m test today and welcomes Zac Wadick as the new pilot who brings a 1.5kg claim with him.
From gate five, he maps to be near the speed with cover and placed when second-up last preparation, he will strip fitter here and looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 7: No.8 Mal Coupe
The locally-trained galloper is high-flying this time in and ticks all boxes that suggest he will be hard to hold out in this event.
Last start, the Xtravagant gelding came off a huge maiden win at Bathurst when he stepped-up to Class 1 competition and did well to beat all but one home over 1100m at Gosford.
With 57.5kgs, Winona Costin settled him outside the leader but in the run home, was unable to reel him in, having to settle for second prize that day.
The three-year-old faces BM68 rivalry today but drops 2kgs for the assignment with Costin remaining aboard.
The speed map suggests he could be box-seating from gate five with plenty of cover in the run and while in career-best form, he looks the one they have to beat in this contest.
