Happy Valley racing takes place on Wednesday, May 14 with a 9-race program set down for Happy Valley racetrack.

Race 4: No.5 Soleil Fighter

Race 4: No.5 Soleil Fighter

The David Hayes-trained galloper is in career-best form of late and ticks all the boxes here that suggest another Happy Valley win is on the cards in this event.

Last start, the German-sired gelding came off a Clas 3 win on this track when he stepped-up to Class 2 company and finished a close-up third over 1400m at Sha Tin.

With Andrea Atzeni aboard, he drew the outside gate (10) and pushed forward early, settled outside the leader without cover before running home strongly, only beaten by two swoopers who arrived late on the scene.

Zac Purton rode him to victory four starts back and returns to steer the ship for this assignment.

He draws the outside gate (7) again and maps to cross and settle just behind the speed again.

Already finding the podium in his past seven starts, he looks set to give this contest a real shake in the smaller field tonight.

Race 7: No.7 Glory B

Doug Whyte saddles-up Glory B here who is in a purple patch of form lately and looks set to go on with it in this event tonight.

Last start, the Sir Prancealot gelding made it back-to-back runner-up finishes when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1200m.

The five-year-old has only scored one win from 12 starts at the track but has finished second on no less than five other occasions.

Hugh Bowman was aboard for his latest effort and retains the ride for this assignment where he draws well in gate four and maps to settle in the first half-dozen.

Showing plenty of consistency in recent racing, he shapes up here as a genuine winning chance in this contest.

Race 8: No.8 Joy Of Spring

The Caspar Fownes-trained galloper has been a victim of poor draws this time in but tonight looks much better placed and a big chance of bouncing back in this event.

Last start, the Deep Field gelding drew the carpark in gate 12 and did well to finish mid-field in a Class 3 over 1800m at Sha Tin.

From the wide gate, Alex Badel had little choice but to drop back and settle near the tail of the field, spotting the leaders a dozen lengths mid-race before running home well along the fence and finished just three lengths from the winner that day.

Lady luck has arrived for the five-year-old as he gets the gun-run from gate one tonight and maps to settle closer to the speed, near mid-field with Badel on board again.

Better drawn, down in weight and meeting similar company tonight, he looks a big chance of bouncing back in this contest.
