Happy Valley racing takes place on Wednesday, March 12 with a 9-race program set down for Happy Valley racetrack.

Race 7: No.4 Prince Of Porty

The David Hall-trained galloper is second-up tonight and currently in winning form, looks set for back-to-back success in this event.

Last start, the Wandjina gelding resumed off a 10-week break and did it in style by winning a Class 3 Hcp over 1200m at Sha Tin.

Previously a first-up winner, Matthew Poon rode him a treat, box-seating on settling and on straightening, came off heels, ranged alongside the leader and out gunned Lady’s Choice right on the line to get the decision by a whisker.

Fitter for that effort tonight, he draws barrier eight and with Poon in the saddle again, maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with cover.

Already a winner when second-up and has had success at the track as well, he looks in the mix in this contest.

Race 8: No.2 California Touch

Second-up tonight, the Deep Field gelding loves racing at Happy Valley where he ticks all the boxes that suggest he is the one to beat in this event.

Last start, the five-year-old resumed off a lengthy 22-week absence and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth (of 11) in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m.

Regular rider Matty Chadwick was aboard again and lacking just race fitness, the gelding did well to finish within 1.5 lengths of victory that night.

Leading from the outset, he set a solid pace and was only found wanting over the final 100m, still chasing hard to the line.

He draws ideally here in gate three and maps to settle just behind the early speed drawn outside him here with Chadwick in pride of place.

Already a winner when second-up and a two-time winner at the track and distance, he will take beating in this contest.

Race 9: No.8 Charity Gain

David Eustace saddles-up Charity Gain here who is in career-best form this preparation and looks set for more success on his favourite track tonight.

Last start, the Twilight Son gelding kept his unblemished record intact when he made it five podium finishes from as many starts at the track, beating all but one home in the Consensus Cup, a Class 3 event, here over 1800m.

With Lyle Hewitson aboard, he drew the carpark in gate 11 (of 12) and dropped back to last from the outset.

At the halfway mark, he was spotting the leader 15 lengths, then turning for home he was the widest runner, at least a dozen horses off the fence, where he stormed home and got up in time to grab that silver medal for the race.

Two wins and a runner-up finish from three starts at the track and over this distance indicates he has strong claims for victory in this contest and with a true pace set up front early, watch for another whirlwind finish from the five-year-old.
