Race 2: No.1 Cascade Mountain
The Wayne Brown-trained galloper is in career-best form this time in and looks a serious chance of bringing up the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the Justify gelding went back-to-back when he carried 61.5kgs to victory in a BM58 over 1900m at Armidale.
He meets similar company here and welcomes a new rider with apprentice Izzy Neale taking the reins for this assignment.
From gate seven, he maps to settle near mid-field and after the 2kg claim, carries the same weight as last start.
He will cover an extra 250m today but has the form on the board that suggests he is capable of getting the journey.
A trouble-free run here can see his first look at the Gunnedah track could be a winning one.
Race 6: No.9 Lady Olenna
The Scone-based Lady Olenna has impressed at her only two starts to date and all things going well here, she can frank her last effort and make it two-straight in this event.
Last start, the Shalaa filly went one better than her debut effort when she clobbered her rivals in a 900m Maiden Hcp on her home track.
Aaron Bullock had the reins that day and after settling just behind the speed, took over inside the final 250m and crossed the line more than two lengths clear in the end.
The three-year-old sees the Gunnedah track for the first time today and well placed in gate four, maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Bullock steering the ship again.
Given a clear run to the line, she could prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 7: No.10 Sharpen The Knives
The last of the day is an open affair with $5 the field on offer as we run with the Tracy Bell-trained galloper who is second-up and well placed for a forward showing at odds.
Last start, the Snitzel mare had her first start for the Bell stable and off an 18-week break, did well to finish third in a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m on her home track at Armidale.
Kody Nestor settled her back in the field before weaving through traffic where she finally saw daylight and arrived in time to claim the minor prize in the race.
She has placed previously when second-up and today the stable fit concussion plates on her front legs while Nestor remains in the saddle for this assignment.
The step-up to the 1250m here looks ideal at this stage of her preparation as she draws well in gate three and maps to settle near mid-field with cover.
Well drawn and well weighted, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
