Grafton racing takes place on Friday, May 9 with a 10-race program set down for Grafton racetrack.
  • Race 7: No.5  Resurrected
  • Race 8: No.5  Veandechance
  • Race 9: No.10  Merapi

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Grafton racetrack.

Race 7: No.5  Resurrected

The Matt Dunn-trained Resurrected is three starts into this campaign and has shown enough to suggest he is ready to win.

Last start, the Shalaa gelding found the podium for the first time this preparation when he beat all but one home in a BM58 over 1200m at Ipswich.

Andrew Mallyon settled him mid-field before putting in a strong finish to arrive in time and claim the runner-up prize.

He has drawn the outside gate (12) today and with Mallyon in the saddle again, maps to cross and settle near mid-field.

The four-year-old meets similar company here and the step-up to 1435m today looks ideal.

Fourth-up, he should be at his peak for this and given a clear run to the line, looks every chance of making his first run at Grafton a winning one.

Race 8: No.5  Veandechance

The Colt Prosser-trained galloper has found her mojo this time in and with solid wet form on her resume, looks a serious contender in this event.

Last start, the Vancouver mare showed a ton of improvement when she came of a hat-trick of unplaced efforts to clean-up a BM82 event over 1614m at Taree.

With Ben Looker aboard, she box-seated to the turn, then on the Heavy 9 surface, took charge and went on with it to score by 1.5 lengths over the line.

She meets similar graded company here and has Looker steering the ship again where she draws wide in gate 10 and maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with cover.

She has won twice in heavy going previously so the forecast Heavy 10 conditions look ideal for her in this contest.

Given a trouble-free run here, she is more than capable of going back-to-back.

Race 9: No.10  Merapi

Taree trainer Trent Potts saddles-up Merapi here who has resumed in great touch and lines-up here looking a little over the odds for this event.

Last start, the Zoustar mare came off a first-up win at Port Macquarie when she wasn’t disgraced when crossing a close-up third in a BM50 over 1509m at the same track.

After settling last from the outside gate, Leanne Boyd tracked wide on the home turn and was the widest of all on straightening where she did well to drive the mare home to collect the minor prize, beaten less than a length on the line.

Drawn much better here in gate five, she maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and has Boyd sticking with her for this assignment.

The six-year-old steps-up to BM58 company but after Boyd’s 2kg claim, will carry 4kgs less than last start, putting her right in contention for the major prize.

Fitter for two runs back, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
