Gosford Racing Tips 8.09.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Wednesday racing moves to Gosford on September 8, and we have our four best bets available. Our tips include Chris Waller-trained runners that should return from a spell in fine order.
  • Race 1 2:00pm AEST – No. 1 Cooled
  • Race 2 2:35pm AEST – No. 8 Solar Apex
  • Race 4 3:45pm AEST – No. 2 Fifteen Aria
  • Race 5 4:20pm AEST – No. 7 Park Avenue

Race 1 2:00pm AEST – No. 1 Cooled

The Hawkes-trained three-year-old should get off the mark this season, and he gets his best chance on Wednesday. He looked good when running second at Canterbury on debut before producing a moderate effort at Flemington. It wasn’t an easy race last start when finishing behind the likes of Lightsaber and Hong Kong-bound Saif. The form reads very well for midweek racing at Gosford.

Getting the inside draw is another positive, and although punters will have to take short odds, that’s a reflection of the class of this field. We expect the $1.90 to firm to around $1.75, so lock in the value odds whilst it’s available.

Race 2 2:35pm AEST – No. 8 Solar Apex

Solar Apex is only a one-win gelding, but his most recent start came in the Group 1 South Australian Derby. He looks to have class, and although he pulled up with a problem in that race, the betting suggests that he’s ready to fire this season. The four-year-old son of Deep Impact owns seven placings from 10 starts, so he’s always around the mark and the betting support is a good sign.

He has opened on the second line of betting at $4, which is shorter than expected. It shows that he’s forward this preparation and having James McDonald in the saddle only strengthens his chances of winning this race.

Race 4 3:45pm AEST – No. 2 Fifteen Aria

The four-year-old mare looked good winning two of her first five starts. She scored three starts back at Hawkesbury, and although her subsequent runs weren’t overly fantastic, she would have appreciated the break. She is a well-bred daughter of Fastnet Rock and Kiwi Group 1 contender O’Marilyn, so the breeding suggests she’ll mature into a nice type.

It’s another Waller/McDonald combination that could be fruitful for punters. Bookmakers have Fifteen Aria at $4.50, which is a respectable price. We think punters will rally around her late in betting markets, so it could pay to lock in the value odds now. Her odds could firm to around $3.80 based on our reports.

Race 5 4:20pm AEST – No. 7 Park Avenue

Park Avenue looked above average when winning his first two starts before running third at Randwick last start. The three-year-old son of Fastnet Rock lost no admirers running third behind Verne, and that form stacks up well for the midweek level. His first two wins came by short margins, but that showed his toughness when close to the line.

This isn’t an easy field, but he gets a valuable 1.5kg off his back. Punters have come for him in early markets after opening at $4.40, so it’s a significant betting push and he could firm into clear favouritism on Wednesday. Barrier four is ideal and he should get a nice trip in transit.
