Golden Rose Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

The Golden Rose is a highlight of the age-group racing calendar. Some of Australia's best thoroughbreds have won the Golden Rose, which always attracts an excellent field.

Betting markets suggest Anamoe is the one to beat, which looks evident following his fresh-up win. However, it's a wide-open field.

We look at the form of every runner in the 2021 Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday.

He looks like a special type after a gutsy fresh up win at Kembla Grange. Running at Rosehill should suit him even more, so we're not surprised to see money come for him. $2 is about as short as we would take, but he is the one they all have to beat.

Punters have been burned in two starts back from a spell, but he had excuses. He flashed home late fresh before hitting the wall late last start. The fitness will do him the world of good, so don't drop him just yet.

He's looking for more ground and we would be surprised if he kept up with them over this distance. Save for better conditions.

Went to Melbourne and didn't have much success. The ability is there, but he might be looking for something much easier.

In the Congo

Yet to run a bad race and he could be the forgotten runner of the field. Tim Clark is riding better than anyone else, so In the Congo isn't being left out of calculations.

Tiger of Malay

Most of his best performances have come against slightly easier opposition. It wouldn't be a huge upset, but it would turn a few heads.

Looked like he needed both runs back from a spell. He hasn't had all luck in running, especially last time out. Specked at each-way odds, so keep him safe.

That was a tough effort last time out, but he might need to find a length to handle this field. He could be a type you'd want to follow over 1600-2000m.

He loomed to win last start before hitting the wall late. Keeps running good races, but this could be too tough for him.

Chris Waller has a big opinion of this runner and we wouldn't discard his comments. He comes off a strong win and punters get lovely odds. He could run into the money from a good barrier.

He has been backed in from $101 to $71, but we wouldn't pay much notice to that. He's still an outsider and should run accordingly.

Jamaea is a filly we have a lot of time for. She is consistently underrated and she gets the benefit of the weight advantage. Her win last time out was full of merit and punters get lovely odds for her to win again. She should be fighting out the finish and launching late.

Startantes is another runner we have time for. Her wins in Queensland have been top class, and she looks to have a good action. This is a fair rise in class, but Startantes winning the Golden Rose wouldn't be a big shock.

It's hard to look past Anamoe, so we're not going to. He's the class act of this field, and he could have a big spring season in store.

We wouldn't rule out Artorius, In the Congo, Startantes and Jamaea, who could all add value to selections.
