Geelong Racing Tips 29.09.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Geelong hosts a nine-race card on Wednesday, September 29, and we have our four best bets available. Our tips have all been heavily backed throughout the week.
  • Race 2 1:35pm No. 5 Freddy Mac
  • Race 4 2:45pm No. 3 El Campeon
  • Race 5 3:20pm No. 8 Goondiwindi
  • Race 7 4:30pm No. 3 Narvaez

Race 2 1:35pm No. 5 Freddy Mac

Looking to cap off three consecutive placings is Freddy Mac, who didn’t have much luck last time out. The four-year-old gelding ran third at Wangaratta after traveling wide when running 3.5 lengths behind the winner, but he put a space on his rivals, which is always a good sign. The son of Written Tycoon also scored placings at Wodonga and Echuca, which should be a good form guide for this contest.

There is a worry he’ll be caught wide after drawing barrier 11, but jockey Talia Hope is likely to push forward and there has been excellent betting support. He has firmed in from $3.40 to $3, so there is confidence in the market.

Race 4 2:45pm No. 3 El Campeon

El Campeon owns two placings from three starts and we think he should breakthrough for his maiden win. The son of Teofilo finished third at Sale on debut behind I’m a Bronco before running fifth behind Stylish Icon at Bendigo. He was back to his best when third behind Wanjiru at Bendigo last start, which saw him rise to 2400m. The rise to 2460m only helps his chances on Wednesday, and he doesn’t meet an overly tough field.

Having John Allen in the saddle helps, and his odds are holding steady. He opened at $3 and has firmed to $2.90, so expect him to start the favourite.

Race 5 3:20pm No. 8 Goondiwindi

We weren’t overly impressed with the performance of Goondiwindi at Geelong last start, but he’s good enough to be given another chance. The well-related son of Australia looked much better prior when winning at Sale, and we’re prepared to put his poor performance down to second-up syndrome. The rise from 1629m to 2440m might have also thrown him off, so he should be kept in consideration for this race.

The four-year-old has plenty of hype surrounding him and that could pay off on Wednesday. He is at longer odds than usual, so punters are likely to jump on and give him another chance to impress.

Race 7 4:30pm No. 3 Narvaez

The Waterhouse/Bott team lines up the four-year-old gelding who looked good running second at Sandown last time out. He was gutsy in the finish when running a half-length behind Crestani, and we’re expecting that form to stack up nicely for the rest of the season at the midweek level. Dropping in grade is a huge bonus, and although he rises in weight to 61kg, he has the class edge.

Barrier 14 is the only negative we can find, but all runners from this stable push forward from the draw, so we expect him to as well. Punters have come for the early price, and he could start much shorter on race day.
