Epsom Handicap Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

The Epsom Handicap is one of the best handicap races in Australia, and it's always one of the most popular betting races.

Punters get excellent value odds throughout the field, including with the favourite Riodini and numerous other runners. It should be one of the most exciting races during the Sydney spring carnival.

We look at the form of every runner in the Epsom Handicap.

He is a classy type that needs to carry the weight, which could be tough for a four-year-old. However, he has the class to overcome it and go close.

He goes back and relies on a fair amount of luck in the run. He can be tough to watch, but his turn-of-foot is superior when things go right.

Dalasan hasn't done much since his three-year-old season, so we can't have him. We thought he would be much longer than $11, but there is market confidence, so watch with interest.

Star of the Seas

Not getting any younger and not getting any faster. Carrying 54kg is ideal, but he's only a one-time winner at Randwick, so he could struggle.

Lion's Roar

Big odds are available and we're not surprised. He hasn't shown much in two runs back from a spell, and we don't see that changing.

Hungry Heart

She is a capable mare, who owns two wins and three placings at Randwick. She will enjoy dropping to 52kg, so don't rule her out at value odds.

Tough to follow at the best of times. We're not questioning her ability, but we would need to see more winning efforts to have her in calculations.

Her form has tapered off considerably and this is last chance saloon. We wouldn't be shocked if he won, but his odds are drifting and at a rapid rate.

The former Kiwi pushed Verry Elleegant close last start and that form stacks up brillantly. He goes forward and makes his own luck, which is ideal for the Epsom Handicap. Tough to beat and punters get each-way odds.

Getting close to a win after consecutive placings. Nothing wrong with that form and he has attracted interest with bookmakers.

Better suited to something much easier. He should find this level of racing too difficult.

Private Eye

We liked the way he hit the line behind Atishu last start and he has been set for this race from the outset. Punters have jumped off his back, but we wouldn't leave him out with 51kg on his back.

A lovely Kiwi who has won two from three in Australia. She showed a willingness to win last start, which bodes well. 50.5kg on her back and punters get double-figure odds. Right in the mix.

Better when second last start, but that didn't come against this level of opposition. Better value with other runners.

Got the better of Sky Lad last start, and Ashman is paying $126 compared to Sky Lab's $19. He looks held, but that's a sizable price difference.

Harmony Rose

She is a classy type on her day and the light weight helps. A win wouldn't be a huge shock.

Sky Lab

Better for the run last start and he is a dangerous type when right. Specked at odds, so keep him safe.

Riodini will be tough to beat following his credible effort behind Verry Elleegant. He has attracted attention with bookmakers and rightfully so.

Atishu and Private Eye are value bets. Bookmakers have left them drift out to generous odds, so they're worth including.
