Echuca Racing Tips for 2.08.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Midweek racing returns to Victoria with a 10-race card at Echuca on Monday. The best provincial trainers and jockeys are in action and a heavy track has presented itself. We have identified four of the best wet-track runners that are paying generous odds with bookmakers.
  • Race 1 12:00pm AEST – No. 3 Decent Raine
  • Race 5 2:00pm AEST – No. 13 Coconut Queen
  • Race 8 3:30pm AEST – No. 3 Sacred Kiwi
  • Race 10 4:30pm AEST – No. 2 Shakespeare

Race 1 12:00pm AEST – No. 3 Decent Raine

Decent Raine finished second on debut at Gawler before being thrown into the deep end. The three-year-old filly finished eighth at Caulfield behind Arcaded before running sixth behind Tycoon Humma at Flemington last time out. The daughter of Dissident has subsequently won a trial at Traralgon by 3.8 lengths and that was a stylish performance.

Barrier 14 isn’t ideal but her odds have firmed throughout the week. She opened at $3.70 and will likely shorten to an even lower quote on race day. She has the class edge over this field and she won’t take long to break her maiden status.

Race 5 2:00pm AEST – No. 13 Coconut Queen

Punters get value odds with Coconut Queen, who should appreciate the longer distance. The five-year-old has yet to win or place from five attempts, but we were impressed with her effort when fifth at Murtoa last start. The run came over the mile and rising to 2100m should only help her chances of winning.

The Paul Preusker stable is firing on all cylinders this season and she won’t have to do much work from barrier six. It should give her a good trip in transit where she can let down late in the straight.

Race 8 3:30pm AEST – No. 3 Sacred Kiwi

Looking to go back-to-back is Sacred Kiwi, who scored a comfortable win at Echuca in similar conditions last start. The five-year-old son of Sacred Falls scored by two lengths at odds of $7.50 and we’re not surprised to see him shorter in the betting this time around. He owns two wins and three placings from 12 starts and his best form comes on rain-affected tracks.

2kg comes off his back and that helps with the allotted weight of 63kg. He carried 59kg to victory last time out, so he’s accustomed to big weights. Having winning experience on the track is ideal and punters get each-way odds worth taking.

Race 10 4:30pm AEST – No. 2 Shakespeare

The five-year-old son of Poet’s Voice is a former New Zealand runner that handles the wet, so conditions are ideal on Monday. He finished eighth at Caulfield last start and dropping in grade should be ideal. His best efforts have come at this level, and although yet to race at Echuca, it’s a track that should suit his running style.

His best form this preparation came earlier when placing in consecutive races. If he brings that form to the table, punters should expect a top effort. He drops down two rating bands for this race and he should have an immediate impact. Look for the each-way odds to firm on race day.
