Caulfield Racing Tips 13.10.2021 - Guineas Day Bets

Caulfield hosts an eight-race card on Wednesday, October 13, and we have our four best bets available. It's Thousand Guineas Day, so the racing is superb in Melbourne. The Blue Sapphire is another top race on the midweek Group 1 card.
  • Race 2 2:00pm No. 3 Floating Artist
  • Race 3 2:30pm No. 4 Mankayan
  • Race 6 4:25pm No. 1 Profiteer
  • Race 8 5:45pm No. 9 Sirileo Miss

Race 2 2:00pm No. 3 Floating Artist

Floating Artist is a quality stayer in the making after winning his last three starts. The Maher/Eustace-trained six-year-old should enjoy the rise in distance to 2000m after winning at 1800m by 2.5 lengths at Sandown last start. He now owns five wins from 14 starts, and his best form has come on dry tracks, so the good conditions at Caulfield on Wednesday are ideal.

We’re not surprised by the short odds available. He has been a tough horse to beat since arriving in Australia, and he has cups races on the horizon. $1.85 is a fair price considering his form, so put him on top.

Race 3 2:30pm No. 4 Mankayan

Mankayan is another imported runner that has been unlucky not to win since arriving in Australia. The Maher/Eustace-trained son of Intello settled back in his Australian debut at Flemington before flying home behind D’aguilar. It was a terrific effort before heading to Sydney and placing in two subsequent starts at Kembla Grange. He wasn’t given every chance to win those races, but getting back to Melbourne should help.

He has yet to run around Caulfield, but he looked more comfortable running this way around. Linda Meech rides and punters get each-way odds to enjoy. His opening odds of $4.40 have firmed, and we expect that to continue.

Race 6 4:25pm No. 1 Profiteer

Profiteer showed plenty of ability at age-group level, and we think his best form will be on show on Wednesday. He won by 5.3 lengths against a moderate field at Randwick in February before running second behind Anamoe. His two runs since have been only fair in the Golden Slipper and Moir Stakes, but they came in Group 1 races, so we’re prepared to forgive those efforts.

The three-year-old colt will look to push forward and try to lead throughout. That is possible against this level of opposition, and he could run them into the ground. $2.80 is a fair price from bookmakers and we expect support to come on race day.

Race 8 5:45pm No. 9 Sirileo Miss

Sirileo Miss is shooting for three consecutive wins after winning impressively at Sandown. The Symon Wilde-trained four-year-old won by 1.3 lengths fresh up before winning by just under a length last time out, which should rank well for this race. She got the better of Frankie Pinot, who could frank the form earlier on the card. She carried 58.5kg on that occasion, so dropping to 56.5kg is ideal for this race.

The daughter of Pride of Dubai owns four wins and three placings from eight starts, so she doesn’t know how to run a bad race. We’re surprised her opening odds of $2.50 have drifted, but we’re taking the better value on offer.
