Caulfield Guineas Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

The Caulfield Guineas has been the springboard for many top Australian thoroughbreds, and the 2021 edition should live up to the hype.

Punters get excellent value odds throughout the field, including with favourite Anamoe, Artorius, and Tiger of Malay.

We look at the form of every runner in the Caulfield Guineas, which runs on Saturday.

Anamoe

He was beaten in the Golden Rose last start, but the Caulfield Guineas favourite didn't lose any admirers. He fought gamely to the line, and we think that is the best form guide for this race.

Artorius

Ran well last start in the Golden Rose when finishing fourth. Not everything went his way in the run, but he has been primed for a big performance. Drawing barrier two should see him settle closer, so expect a big run.

Tiger of Malay

Another runner that wasn't far behind them in the Golden Rose. Lovely odds are available with bookmakers and he gets every chance off the inside draw. A value runner, especially with Craig Williams in the saddle.

Alpine Edge

He had no luck when running fourth at Caulfield. He looked to be cruising but ran out of room, so the Queenslander could be the overlooked runner. Worth including in selections at a generous price.

Captivant

He looks like a type that could enjoy further, but he was scratched from an easier race. That is often a good sign, and we wouldn't rule out a runner from this stable.

Lightsaber

Got back to winning form last start. Much harder here, but he has always had the ability, so don't rule it out completely.

Giannis

A tough customer, but they might be too smart for him. We weren't impressed last start, and although the mile suits, we're leaving him out.

Forgot You

The Guineas was the target all along and his last two wins have been impressive. We think Forgot You had a bright future, but we're putting him in trifecta selections. Beating Anamoe could be tough.

Mr Mozart

Second behind Forgot You last start, but he had his chance. Specked at double-figure odds, but he's a touch too short for our liking.

Daily Bugle

That was a better run last time out, but we're not thrilled with his form. He would need to improve considerably to get our money.

Knightstown

An Adelaide-based runner who was found out against tough opposition last start. Needs something easier than Group 1 grade.

Zerelle

Better last start, but the $251 odds are an indication of his chances. Only a one-race winner, which came at maiden level. That tells punters all they need to know.

Riverplate

Yet to win a race after four attempts. Looked good early on, but his form has worsened since rising in class.

Prix de Turn

Second on debut and he has attracted some interest at big odds. However, we haven't seen enough of him to warrant inclusion at Group 1 level.

Hitotsu

Another runner that has been specked at odds. Scored his maiden win last start, but he is rising significantly in class. Watch the betting markets.

Verdict

We can't look past Anamoe. He is the testing material in the Caulfield Guineas, so put him on top.

Leaving out Artorius, Tiger of Malay, and Alpine Edge would be a mistake. They represent value.
