Caulfield Cup Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

The Caulfield Cup is one of the premier staying races in the world, and a field of 19 runners enters this year.

Headlined by the impressive Incentivise, the 2021 Caulfield Cup boasts some extraordinary talent. It's one of the best fields in recent history, which adds to the appeal of no Europeans coming over to compete.

We look at the form of every runner in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

Homesman

He is finding it tough to win races, but there is little wrong with his form. Close behind some smart types recently, so don't rule him out.

Incentivise

The class act of the field and his form reflects that. Stringing wins together, and despite drawing barrier 20, he should have time to find a spot. Brett Prebble is riding better than anyone else, so that helps.

Explosive Jack

A Derby winner who should be hitting the line impressively. His odds have been trimmed throughout the week, which is a good sign.

The Chosen One

He is a tough Kiwi, who has been threatening to win a big race this season. Lovely effort for second last start, so rule him out at your peril.

Ocean Billy

Another Kiwi, but this one looks well-held. The Auckland Cup winner gets track conditions to suit, but he lacks the pace needed to win.

Selino

Punters get triple-figure odds and rightfully so. He's not running well enough to consider in one of the toughest races to win.

Persan

Experienced in big races and he is warming up nicely for the Melbourne Cup. Nothing wrong with his form, and jockey Linda Meech has been riding well. Heavily backed at a price.

Chapada

Handles the wet tracks, but he doesn't win races very often. Can't have him in our selections.

Delphi

An imported runner who took off around the home turn and never looked back last start. A lovely type that will grind away and be tough to beat. Main danger to the favourite.

Master of Wine

Not running well enough for our liking. Better last start when third, but he would need to find a lew lengths on that effort.

Montefilia

She got back to winning form last start and she can't be ruled out on that form. Dropping to 52kg should work wonders, and she is a past winner over 2400m.

Port Guillaume

Unlikely to get close to them. Form is tested, despite a lack of luck this season.

She's Ideel

Likes the conditions and there has been little wrong with her form. Set for a race like this, so punters are getting value odds. She should be storming home late.

Young Werther

Ready to show his best form and there is confidence with bookmakers. He is bred to be winning races like the Caulfield Cup, so keep him safe.

Nonconformist

Tried hard when winning two back and he almost downed Probabeel last start. There is nothing wrong with that form, so keep safe.

Duais

Qualified for this race with her win on Wednesday. She hit the line impressively, but winning twice in a week isn't easy.

Charms Star

The Kiwi hasn't done much since crossing the Tasman. Only a one-race winner, so leave her out.

Great House

Unlikely to trouble them. Scored two back, but not against this level of opposition.

Constantinople

We doubt he'll get a run, and even if he did, he could finish a long last.

Verdict

Incentivise is the horse to beat in the Caulfield. The former Queenslander has gone from strength to strength, so he must be put on top.

Our second pick is Delphi, so ran them ragged last start. That form should hold up nicely in the main event on Saturday.
