We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Canterbury racetrack.
Race 4: No.7 Little Baia
The Bjorn Baker-trained Little Baia is third-up tonight and drawn better here, looks well placed for improvement.
Last start, the All Too Hard mare finished unplaced (with excuses) in a BM72, here over the 1250m trip.
Olivia Chambers had her settled in the back half of the field (on the fence) and when the time came to make a move, she was hampered and blocked for a run, and never really clear until it was too late.
Drawn much better here in gate three, she maps to settle better than mid-field as Tim Clark is legged aboard for the first time.
Her resume shows she is a track and distance winner and has won third-up previously.
A clearer path to line the line tonight and fitter for those two runs back, she can figure in this contest.
Race 5: No.5 Frankly Elegant
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained galloper has been racing without luck this preparation and with the boxes ticked tonight, she gets her chance to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Frankel mare made it a hat-trick of runner-up cheques when she beat all but home in a BM72 over 1800m on Randwick’s Kensington track.
Trying to lead all the way, the mare was challenged in the run home and couldn’t go with the eventual winner but held on strongly to claim her third straight silver medal.
The five-year-old draws gate one for this event and will probably lead again as Tim Clark returns for his second ride on the mare.
A winner fourth-up last preparation, she has tasted success at the track and trip previously and at her peak tonight, she can get the job done in this contest.
Race 6: No.7 Scintilla
Les Bridge saddles-up Scintilla here who is high flying after two starts back and looks well placed here to go on with it tonight.
Last start, the Hellbent filly went one better than her first-up effort when she broke through for her maiden win, here over 1250m.
Ridden a treat by Braith Nock, he settled her outside the leader and waited until the final 200m when he let her go and the filly then raced away to win by two lengths on the line.
She draws ideally in gate three tonight and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Nock remaining in the saddle.
After the 3kg claim, the well-bred three-year-old will carry just 52.5kgs here, 2kgs under the limit.
She steps-up sharply in grade tonight, taking on BM72 company but her efforts last start suggest she will fit in and is a solid chance of going back-to-back in this contest.
