Wyong Racing Tips 30.09.2021 - NSW Best Bets

Wyong hosts an eight-race card on Thursday, September 30, and we have our four best bets available. Our tips include runners with James McDonald and Tim Clark riding.
  • Race 1 1:10pm No. 2 The Poacher
  • Race 3 2:20pm No. 6 Garmish
  • Race 7 4:50pm No. 3 Russbuss
  • Race 7 5:30pm No. 2 Jesse James

Race 1 1:10pm No. 2 The Poacher

The Poacher did well to finish second on debut at Randwick and we think he can go one better on Thursday. He is a three-year-old son of No Nay Never, who is bred to be handy, and his debut performance following consecutive trial wins. He showed his ability at the trials and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks through for the win.

Getting Hugh Bowman to ride off the inside draw is ideal, and the track conditions should be right up his alley. His opening odds of $2.35 didn’t last long, and we don’t think the $2.20 will last too much longer.

Race 3 2:20pm No. 6 Garmish

Looking to win at his third start is Garmish, who looked good when running second at Newcastle last time out. The three-year-old son of Snitzel is bred to handle wet conditions, and he should get a track to suit at Wyong. He looked good winning two trials at Rosehill before his debut, so there is a fair amount of class there.

His most recent trial at Rosehill was a good tune-up for this race, so he should be nearing peak fitness. Having Tim Clark in the saddle is ideal, as he likes to push forward, and he’s a good judge of speed. Expect the favourite to be tough to beat under these conditions.

Race 7 4:50pm No. 3 Russbuss

Russbuss was good enough to score consecutive wins last season, so we have high hopes for the Bjorn Baker-trained runner. The four-year-old mare scored at Bathurst by 1.3 lengths before winning at Mudgee by the same margin. He didn’t fire at Rosehill last start behind the talented Ballistic Lover, but she’s much better than that, and this is a massive drop in class.

She is a three-time winner from 10 starts, so the class is there and it’s good to see James McDonald picking up the ride. That should give punters confidence, especially at midweek level. The $3 is likely to firm on race day, so take the price available.

Race 7 5:30pm No. 2 Jesse James

Jesse James capped off four consecutive placings with a fresh up win at Goulburn last start, and he can add to his win tally here. The Annabel Neasham-trained five-year-old has finished out of the money only once from seven starts, so punters are betting on a consistent type. He has experience running second at Wyong, and his maiden win came by 2.3 lengths, so he was far too good for them.

Drawing barrier 12 could pose some problems, but he should be able to find a decent spot in running over 1600m. Tommy Berry takes the ride and we’re confident Jesse James can fire another shot against this level of opposition.
