Moonee Valley

It’s a wide-open field at Moonee Valley with many winning chances. Sweet Mary looked good winning at Casterton on debut by six lengths, and although she faces a steep rise in class, she looks to have plenty of ability. The daughter of Hinchinbrook ran three lengths faster than class average, so she deserves her chance in the top grades.

The unbeaten La Rocque and Frost Flowers have also attracted attention with bookmakers. They have faced tough fields throughout their career and we wouldn’t be surprised if they got the job done.

All the rage is I’m Thunderstruck and that’s not a shock after scoring a stunning win at Flemington last start. The three-year-old gelding put four lengths on the field with ease and sprinted away in the straight, so he is a class above the rest of the field and the odds-on quote was expected.

Tuvalu was a touch unlucky behind I’m Thunderstruck last start. He only got clear running late in the race and hit the line nicely for second. However, he was never going to beat the favourite and that could be the case again on Saturday.

Race 9 5:40pm AEST – LADBROKE IT BM70 Tips

It’s another wide-open field at Moonee Valley and we think Wilmot Pass can cap off consistent form. The four-year-old gelding has placed in four consecutive runs and he deserves a winning turn. Getting 2kg off his back is ideal and he handles all track conditions, so we’re prepared to give him another chance.

Most of the early money has come for Flash Flood, who is gunning for his third consecutive win. His most recent win came at Moonee Valley, so having track experience is ideal and he should be right around the mark.

La Chevalee scored an overdue win last start against a similar field and she could go back-to-back. The Maher/Eustace-trained mare won by two lengths in heavy conditions and despite rising in weight, she gets a valuable 2kg claimer in the saddle. Her odds have drifted steadily throughout the week, but punters get backable odds and she is worth following.

Zing finished second behind La Chevalee last start and she’s capable of turning the tables. She has finished worse than second only once from six attempts at Randwick, so keep her safe.

Race 7 2:50pm AEST – MOET & CHANDON BM88 Tips

Surf Dancer has been well-backed to win after finishing third in his Australian debut. The four-year-old son of Lope de Vega showed ability overseas when scoring three wins from eight starts, so the quality is there and the betting move isn’t surprising.

Le Gai Soleil has been specked at odds and the money looks well placed. The daughter of Tavistock owns five wins from 11 starts and things haven’t gone her way the last couple of starts. Given the odds available, she is worth sticking with.

Eagle Farm

Race 1 11:38pm AEST – RACECOURSE VILLAGE BM78 Tips

Getting down in the weights could be ideal for Champagne Aunty and she was only narrowly beaten fresh up Eagle Farm, which bodes well for this contest. She is a three-time winner from 12 starts, so the ability is there and she showed good natural speed, which is always handy over this distance.

The best-backed runner to beat the favourite is Baanone. The son of Shocking comes off a second placing at Sunshine Coast and he looks ready to return to his best. Add Baanone to quinella selections.

Drawing wide won’t help Alpine Edge, but the Team Edmonds-trained colt owns more talent than most in this field. The two-year-old scored consecutive wins to open his account before running second in the Magic Millions at Gold Coast. He followed it with a seventh at Randwick, but he came to the end of his campaign and his trial form leading into this race has been sound.

Jumbo Goal and Startantes have been best-backed to upset the favourite. They are in good form, especially Jumbo Goal who is searching for three straight wins. His form has turned around nicely and he could kick on with the job.

Race 4 2:06pm AEST – FURPHY BM68 Tips

Yulong Phelps is the standout runner after an impressive debut win at Swan Hill. The Danny O’Brien-trained colt scored by 3.3 lengths and he scored an easy jumpout at Flemington to prepare for this race. He looks to have the class edge over this field and his opening odds of $3 have been taken, which isn’t surprising.

Kayseri isn’t the most consistent type of late but he’s much better than what he showed at Gawler last start. The son of Showcasing has finished in the money in 12 of his 19 starts, so he owns talent and his form at this track bodes well.

Will Clarken lines up the three-year-old gelding that is a slick sprinter and capable of winning the Lightning Stakes. The son of Unencumbered owns two wins from three starts at Morphettville and his only failure came at Group 1 level last start. He goes well fresh up and the shortening odds are no surprise.

Maha returned to winning form with a victory at Gawler. The filly scored comfortably and she only needs luck from the wide draw to figure in the finish.

Race 1 2:18pm AEST – FULLER FITNESS BM78 Tips

Zaratite had no luck last Saturday, but the five-year-old gelding should make amends at Belmont. The five-year-old gelding owns four wins and six second placings from 11 starts, so he’s consistent, and carrying 54.5kg with William Pike in the saddle helps. Punters will have to take short odds, but he is well worth including in selections.

The two Adam Durrant-trained runners could pose a threat. True Attraction and Treasured Crown run at each-way odds and could run the trifecta with Zaratite.
