Our blackbookers to follow from racing on February 10, with the Blackbook.com.au team assembling their runners to follow from Caulfield & Randwick.
CAULFIELD
Race 3 - Verifier (fourth): He's not in the same class as the winner, who we won't be seeing at BM70 level again, although it was another good run from the son of Tivaci.
After returning with a fourth in a decent form race behind El Soleado, Verifier wasn't as suited staying at 1600m second-up here, but he needs these outings before getting over further.
With a rating of only 67, connections have plenty of options going forward with the four-year-old, who could be suited to the BM70 middle-distance series coming up at The Valley.
Race 6 - Stay Focused (second): High Octane was unlucky and while the run of the fav was a complete forgive, the effort of Stay Focused had plenty of merit with a Blue Diamond in mind.
A brilliant winner of the Geelong Diamond on debut, he was on the fresh side for start two and he raced accordingly, with the colt struggling to settle off a wide run.
He's provided a perfect tow into proceedings for the eventual winner (Bodyguard), who only put a half length margin on him and Stay Focused has plenty of improvement to come.
Race 10 - Moesha (fourth): She looks a coming stakes winner and although 1100m proved to be too sharp here first-up, it was a lovely return from the Moody & Coleman-trained filly.
This should be a handy form race going forward and over more ground, Moesha could be the pick of them, a three-year-old who didn't have luck in her first campaign last year.
After sitting wide via a brilliant maiden victory at start two, she was badly held-up at Sandown before finishing fourth in a Group 2 over 1400m at Caulfield, where she covered ground.
RANDWICK
Race 3 - Infinitive (fourth): Ultimately, she was just a run short here second-up, but the Chris Waller-trained mare has a nice platform now, with two runs completed following a long break.
Infinitive was unsuited first-up, yet found the line strongly and it wasn't a dissimilar scenario here, where she was doing her best work late to just miss out on third.
They've got plenty of room to move with a rating of only 71, although she's well and truly up to this benchmark, while getting over a little more ground will be the key third-up.
Race 5 - French Bonnet (fifth): Despite having no winning first-up form and having resumed here following a short and failed autumn prep last year, she was still specked at a big price.
That late market move came off the back of two strong trial wins and while French Bonnet struggled when the sprint went on, she did find a second wind late in the piece.
Her last five victories have come in the 1400m-1600m range, so she should only improve from this fresh run, while her second-up stats are strong, so respect her next time.
Race 6 - Makarena (second): The race fitness of Caballus (winner )proved the difference, however, Makarena safely held off the rest of the boys and that was following a quiet ride.
This lightly raced filly showed tactical speed when recording back-to-back triumphs at starts two and three over her first prep, which culminated in a 1400m success at Rosehill.
She was produced off three-week (or thereabouts) patterns when winning over spring, so a similar set-up going into the Group 1 Surround Stakes on March 2 looks ideal against the fillies.
