Our blackbookers to follow from racing on May 14 with the Blackbook.com.au team assembling their runners to follow from the Belmont, Eagle Farm, Flemington, Morphettville and Scone cards.
Race 4 - Glamour Packed (fourth): A mare with no first-up form, this was comfortably her best return to date when coming with a wide run from the rear to be beaten less than half a length and recorded the fastest last 600m of the race in the process. Wasn't able to salute last campaign, but with a low rating and off this run, she can win a race or two.
Race 5 - The Velvet Queen (second): Made this file first-up when a little unlucky and staying at 1400m second-up, was eased right back early. Was the only runner in this to break 34 seconds for the last 600m and has done so easily (33.68). A half-sister to dual Group 3 winner The Velvet King, who did win over a mile, that is a trip which this filly is now looking for.
Race 4 - Startantes (fifth): It was a touch too wet and she was just awkwardly positioned coming into the straight. When the go-button was pressed aboard the filly, she ran into a bit of interference, halting all momentum which likely has cost her second spot at the minimum. Loved her work through the line and kept fresh for a race like the Tatts Tiara will suit.
Race 8 - Signore Fox (fourth): He ran a solid third in this race last year and backed it up with another great run in the Kingsford Smith Cup, which is the same race that we would assume he targets next. In the wrong part of the track, he was slicing his way through the field and simply looks to be going just as well as last year, if not a touch better.
Race 2 - Moon And Back (sixth): In a slowly run race, this mare got too far back and was out of the race from the get-go, but the way she hit the line was encouraging and it shows in a more genuinely run race, that she is up to this level. Her run was made between the 600m and 400m mark, where she ran a 10.63 split which was the third fastest split for this sectional across the whole day.
Race 9 - Rock Prophet (fifth): Literally given zero hope when sitting last behind runners, although the horse showed no gate speed irrespective, so there was no other option. He produced the fastest last 800m of the day (no shocking given this was a sprint), but it showed that the race may be one that we can follow going forward as it was a genuine race.
Race 1 - Speed Lover (second): Didn't have much luck first-up when covering ground and carrying weight, while from a wide draw she was spotting them up a start here and only got warm very late in the piece. Bolted in with an 1100m maiden at start three before being spelled and is clearly looking for that extra 100m-200 based off both runs this campaign.
Race 5 - Howl (ninth): Although this 100k SA Sprint Final was likely a target, Howl was only second-up and at start six with a month between runs, so has plenty of upside. After a narrow Oakbank miss when in the worst part of the track, he was badly chopped out of a run at the 250m here after travelling strongly. Has a Goodwood nom, but is 12 months off that.
Race 9 - Surreal Step (sixth): Was sent out a silly price following a nice stable debut when working home against the pattern at Hawkesbury and arguably should've won second-up. While a little slow away, the early decision to spear towards the rails has proved costly as they were searching for runs in the straight rather than having the back of the eventual winner.
Race 10 - Kordia (sixth): This ex-Godolphin runner having his first start for Cody Morgan/Australian Bloodstock and while never in winning calculations over a short 1100m, his work through the line was good and indicated that 1400m-1600m deeper this prep would be the range. Won a strong BM78 last winter and handles any conditions, so there's plenty of options.
