Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the action.
Race 2- BenchMark 70, 3YO Fillies (1300m)- Eagle Express
Race 2 went the way of the $2.45 favourite, Terilee. Eagle Express worked home well for 3rd and is one to consider over further ground at her next start. The Chris Waller filly settled back in the field of 11 and was doing her best work late with the fastest last 200m. She was a winner over the 1500m at Mornington at her last preparation and will be third up at her next start.
Race 4- BenchMark 74 (1400m)- Sir Atlas
Nice return by Sir Atlas in Race 4. The lightly raced six-year-old was lining up for his first run since February and attracted late support in the betting but was pushed out wide early on and was camped out four-wide no cover. But the Lindsey Smith-trained galloper stuck on well for 3rd behind Stylish. He might be somewhere back to the early career form that saw him claim four races.
Race 6- BenchMark 78 (1600m)- Aztec State
Big win by Aztec State in Race 6. The Hayes galloper was returning from a year off the scene and swamped his rivals late in the piece to score by three lengths from Russian Meteor. The promising four-year-old has now won four of 10 and his best may be yet to come. A two-time winner over the 2000m, the son of Pierro can improve further off that run and keen to see him over longer distances at his next couple of starts.
Race 9- Handicap (1400m)- Hughes & Run Harry Run
The final event of the day went the way of Hughes, who produced a well timed run to score. The victory was his fourth from his last five starts and he has now won two of his three this time in. The Gavin Bedggood galloper can continue to progress. The performance of the runner-up, Run Harry Run, is also worth noting. The Hayes galloper did alot of the dirty work outside the leader in the early to middle stages and was forced to go for home a long way out. He was only picked off late in the piece. The four-year-old showed promise with some solid runs at Listed level behind the likes of Another Wil and Jimmystar at his last preparation and should be cherry ripe to rejoin the winners list very soon.
