Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Rosehill on June 28.

  • Race 3:  Fiddlers Green
  • Race 9:  Belvedere Boys
  • Race 10:  Lady Extreme

Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?

Race 3:  Fiddlers Green

The Merchant Navy gelding was second-up on Saturday, coming off a first-up win, and finished an unlucky fourth in the BM72 Hcp.

He drew the outside gate (9) and settled last with Anna Roper in the saddle.

On straightening, he could still see all of them and was held up most of the way home until seeing daylight inside the final 100m where he hit the line strongly to finish a close-up fourth.

Only bad luck robbed him of a podium finish and with two runs under his belt now, he has more to offer yet.

Race 9:  Belvedere Boys

The Matt Dunn-trained gelding was second-up on Saturday and turned plenty of heads with an impressive effort, finishing one stride short of victory in the Listed McKell Cup (2000m).

He settled mid-field early, spotting the leader (and eventual winner) Elamaz six lengths to the turn.

Crossing heels, Braith Nock found daylight and in the run home, the five-year-old finished best in the race but missed by a whisker in the end.

He is a winner when third-up and looks set for a bold campaign this time in.

Race 10:  Lady Extreme

The ever-consistent galloper was second-up on Saturday and went back-to-back when she arrived in time to grab victory in the BM78 Hcp (1200m).

Box-seating on settling, Alysha Collett eased her off the fence on straightening but was blocked for room, forcing her to track back inside where finally found space inside the last 150m and through vigorous riding, reached the line in time to remain unbeaten this preparation.

Her resume speaks for itself with 11 starts resulting in four wins and six minor placings and going by her efforts on Saturday, she is well worth following.
