Rosehill Blackbookers

Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Rosehill  on December 7.
  • Race 1:  Unleeshing
  • Race 7:  Lulumon
  • Race 8:  I’mintowin

Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?

Race 1:  Unleeshing

The Bjorn Baker-trained filly was second-up on Saturday and having just her third race start when she finished an eye-catching second in a BM72 over the 1200m trip.

Rachel King was aboard again where she settled the filly, second-last on the fence.

Crossing off heels soon after straightening, she was still five lengths behind the front-runners but took plenty of ground off them in the run home, arriving in time to grab second prize in the race.

That was her first look at a wet track under race conditions which she appeared to handle well.

She will strip even fitter next start and maybe looking for a little further from here.

Race 7:  Lulumon

The Vancouver mare was also second-up on Saturday and was most impressive by taking out the BM78 Hcp over 1300m.

With the track downgraded to a Heavy 10, she handled the conditions really well and was ridden a treat by Tim Clark as well.

Sitting one back and one off the fence, the four-year-old enjoyed the trail to the turn, where Clark then pulled her out wide and eventually got the better of the leader (and race favourite, Drift Net), to claim victory by almost a length on the line and looked to have some to spare as well.

Its worth noting the mare is a two-time winner when third-up so it should pay to keep her safe for at least her next outing.

Race 8:  I’mintowin

The Waterhouse & Bott-trained gelding has come back in top-shelf form this preparation and second-up on Saturday gave his BM94 rivals a real lesson as he crossed the line almost three lengths clear in the 1400m contest.

Coming off a good win at Kembla Grange, the Contributer five-year-old franked that win by steeping up in grade and looked even more impressive as he led from barrier to box and never looked like losing in the run home.

Now even fitter after those two runs, he is from a good stable and the future looks bright for him at this stage where he should followed for a few more runs yet.
