Randwick Racing Tips 25.08.2021 - Waller to Have Success

Randwick hosts a Wednesday meeting on August 25, and we have our best bets. Chris Waller lines up three of our runners and jockeys Brock Ryan and James McDonald are also worth following.
  • Race 3 2:35pm AEST – No. 4 Finally Realise
  • Race 4 3:10pm AEST – No. 2 Brookspire
  • Race 5 3:45pm AEST – No. 1 Seleque
  • Race 6 4:20pm AEST – No. 6 Toomuchtobear

Race 3 2:35pm AEST – No. 4 Finally Realise

Looking to go one better than last start is Finally Realise, who finished second by a nose last week. The Peter Robl-trained four-year-old closed off nicely to finish second behind Super Effort, which was a super effort for the son of All Too Hard. He is a two-time winner and eight-time placegetter from 16 starts, so the consistency is there.

Getting 2kg off his back courtesy of Brock Ryan’s claim is ideal, so punters should be confident with Finally Realise against this level of opposition. $3.40 is a fair price and it could firm considerably on race day.

Race 4 3:10pm AEST – No. 2 Brookspire

Brookspire is a spring-level thoroughbred who has yet to finish worse than third in three starts at Randwick. The four-year-old mare by Hinchinbrook drops in class after running eighth at Morphettville behind Media Award. That was a much harder race and dropping in distance from 2000m to 1400m is ideal as her best form comes over 1400m.

We’re not surprised that she has been met with betting support. She opened at $2.50 and has since firmed into $2.35, but we’re expecting that price to shorten even further. She gets Hugh Bowman in the saddle off the inside barrier, so she can make her own luck. A recent trial placing at Rosehill behind Kiwi superstar Atishu is an excellent sign, so we’re expecting big things.

Race 5 3:45pm AEST – No. 1 Seleque

Chris Waller lines up the four-year-old mare that owns three wins and five placings from 11 starts, so she is consistent and capable of winning again. She finished fourth at Randwick last time out behind Tamerlane, and that form looks good for this level of racing. It followed up a solid effort for second at Canterbury, which came after a fresh up win at Warwick Farm in heavy conditions.

Betting against a well-backed Waller-trained runner doesn’t often work out for punters. Therefore, we’re going with the daughter of Deep Field, who gets a vital claim from Brock Ryan. The apprentice has a nice book of rides, so he could team up with Chris Waller for more success.

Race 6 4:20pm AEST – No. 6 Toomuchtobear

We’re going with another Waller-trained runner. Toomuchtobear is shooting for his third consecutive win after scoring at Bendigo and Newcastle. His win at Bendigo came narrowly, but he defeated Mr Brightside, who has since won twice and emerged as a spring contender. It’s a handy form guide and he proved that when winning at Newcastle by 2.3 lengths.

The son of Press Statement still has work to become a spring contender, but he’s capable of winning again at midweek level. Punters get a good price and having James McDonald in the saddle won’t do his chances any harm.
