Randwick Racing Tips 18.08.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Randwick hosts a midweek meeting on Wednesday, August 18, and we have our four best bets. All four runners come from the major Sydney stables and punters are getting value odds across the metropolitan meeting.
  • Race 1 1:25pm AEST – No. 1 Yearning
  • Race 2 2:00pm AEST – No. 3 Greater Harlem
  • Race 4 3:10pm AEST – No. 9 Billiondollarbaby
  • Race 5 3:45pm AEST – No. 2 Yukon

Race 1 1:25pm AEST – No. 1 Yearning

Most of the early betting money has come for Yearning and it’s not hard to see why. The Hawkes-trained three-year-old filly finished second on debut at Randwick behind Ashema, which is solid form for maiden racing. Her most recent run was a fifth at Randwick behind Jamaea, which came on a good track and against open company.

Dropping back to maiden grades is ideal for the daughter of Snitzel and we don’t think she’ll stay in this grade for long. Her opening odds of $3.10 were taken immediately and she only needs a good ride from in-form jockey Brenton Avdulla to go close.

Race 2 2:00pm AEST – No. 3 Greater Harlem

Greater Harlem comes from the Chris Waller stables and looks set to exit maiden grades this season. The son of Hinchinbrook finished second on debut at Warwick Farm behind Overpass before taking on harder opposition at Rosehill last start. He finished sixth behind Overmann and Volcanic Rock, which has since been franked at high levels throughout the winter.

It’s not often we see a Waller-trained favourite paying $4.20, so punters are getting a value price. He gets the services of James McDonald in the saddle, and we don’t think it will be too much longer before his odds shorten to around $3.20. It could pay to take the value on offer and lock in the current odds.

Race 4 3:10pm AEST – No. 9 Billiondollarbaby

Looking to remain unbeaten from three starts is Billiondollarbaby. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly looked the goods during her first preparation and she’s back with spring racing in mind. She scored o debut at Canterbury by a length, which came over Port Louis, who would subsequently run well in much harder races. She then scored by just under a length at Warwick Farm, so the form stacks up.

Her recent trial placings at Randwick were solid hit outs and the daughter of I Am Invincible has been one of the best-backed runners at Randwick. Her opening odds of $4 lasted a few minutes and we’re predicting she starts close to $2.

Race 5 3:45pm AEST – No. 2 Yukon

Yukon is a good each-way bet after scoring his third career win at Randwick last start. The Hawkes-trained runner defied a betting drift to get the job done on this track and we’re surprised he’s not at shorter odds. He meets a much harder field, but the four-year-old son of Vancouver showed a fine turn-of-foot, and his future is bright.

Brock Ryan takes the ride with his 2kg claim. He has his work cut out for him from barrier 10, but he has time to find cover and let Yukon settle into a rhythm. Take the each-way odds available as they won’t get much higher.
