Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 3: Syrian Star
The Rod Northam-trained galloper was first-up on Saturday and certainly turned some heads with her effort on fresh legs.
The Stratum Star mare settled worse than midfield in the 14-strong field with Reece Jones in the saddle.
Soon after straightening, she was forced to come wide for a clear run home where she had just four horses behind her at that stage.
The four-year-old took a while to warm up but once she found her feet, she hit the line strongly to finish second, beaten just half a length on the line.
She has placed when second-up and is a two-time winner when third-up so it should pay to stick with her for a couple more yet.
Race 6: Chief Conductor
The Sara Ryan-trained gelding surprised punters with an impressive first-up effort after going to the gates as a $41 chance in the race.
Settling last in the 14-strong event, he was fresh off a 22-week absence and had Regan Bayliss in the saddle.
On straightening, he could see them all and was still two lengths behind the second last horse as thewy passed the 300m mark.
He then sprouted wings and stormed home for an eye-catching fifth, beaten less than three lengths on the line.
The I Am Invincible galloper is already a winner when second-up and a two-time winner when third-up so it will pay to keep him safe for a few more.
Race 9: Iowna Merc
Punters were confident the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper could get the job done second-up on Saturday so they sent him out a $3 favourite for the Listed event.
He jumped from gate six in the 12-strong field but found himself three and four-wide from the outset and was never closer to the fence the entire race.
Pushed even wider on the turn, Rachel King kept a good hold on him until they passed the 300m mark where she asked him for another effort.
He gave his all, putting in the big ones but while fighting it out with the Mitchell Beer-trained Mnementh, the wide run took its toll, leaving him to settle for second prize in the race, beaten just over half a length on the line.
His best results are on dry ground so keep him tucked away in your blackbook and watch for him on good tracks.
