Horses to follow and blackbookers who caught the team's eye at the Kembla Grange meeting on August 14.

Race 1 - Philipsburg (ninth)

Held-up from the 400m to the 200m, it was a messy watch for favourite backers in the Highway, albeit when the narrowest of gaps briefly appeared, he perhaps wasn't travelling well enough anyway, with no momentum prior to that the key reason. The fresh effort prior to that was very good and he had some decent form last time in. Happy to forgive this performance.

Race 4 - Island Bay Boy (fifth)

It was a big step up in grade for this four-year-old who was resuming after plying his trade well on the country circuit and although wouldn't have beaten King Of Sparta irrespective, the winner had a saloon passage through whereas this gelding was three-wide. Could well be city class in time, but perhaps a Provincial 64 would see him back to the winner's stall second-up.

Race 7 - Cepheus (fourth)

An OTI import that has feature spring nominations in Melbourne (Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate), he had trialled up superbly ahead of this Australian debut where although couldn't land the chocolates, recorded the fastest last 600m of this seven-furlong event which was ultimately a little sharp. Great run and should only improve as the distances increase.
