Hawkesbury Racing Tips 19.08.2021 - Rowley Mile Bets

Hawkesbury hosts the Rowley Mile meeting on Thursday, August 19, and we have our four best bets available. Our Rowley Mile selection is the value runner of the field, which could cap off a successful day for value punters.
  • Race 1 12:45pm AEST – No. 1 Bazooka
  • Race 3 1:55pm AEST – No. 1 Head Legislator
  • Race 6 3:50pm AEST – No. 6 Conrad
  • Race 7 4:25pm AEST – No. 10 Surf Dancer

Race 1 12:45pm AEST – No. 1 Bazooka

The early betting support is for Bazooka, who could cap off consistent form with a win. He is a son of Smart Missile that owns one win from 21 starts, but he has nine placings to his name, including the last four this preparation. Bazooka comes off a third placing at Randwick behind Gemmahra, which followed a second placing at Rosehill behind Yiyi.

It’s strong form for this level of racing and we’re not surprised his odds have firmed from an opening quote of $2.15. He will likely start as the odds-on favourite and this race is there for the taking.

Race 3 1:55pm AEST – No. 1 Head Legislator

Knocking on the door of a win is Head Legislator, who owns five second placings from seven career starts. The Matthew Dunn-trained runner has been threatening to win after four consecutive placings, and he looks to have found a winnable race. The four-year-old son of Headwater ran second on a heavy track at Canterbury before placing at Kembla Grange on a good surface. He’s an adaptable type that only needs luck from the wide barrier.

Having Nash Rawiller in the saddle helps, and he’s able to settle back and come with a big late run. The big field helps back runners, and punters are getting excellent value odds for the joint-favourite.

Race 6 3:50pm AEST – No. 6 Conrad

Kim Waugh lines up the three-year-old gelding that has shown plenty of ability to date. The son of Maurice ran second on debut at Canterbury before winning at Wyong by 3.8 lengths. Breaking maidens by such a big margin is always a good sign, and it bodes well for the upcoming season. Punters should overlook his most recent performance at Rosehill, which came behind some smart types in open company.

Dropping to midweek company is ideal and he has been primed with a recent trial win at Wyong. That should top him off nicely and having James McDonald in the saddle helps. Punters shouldn’t be concerned with the drifting odds.

Race 7 4:25pm AEST – No. 10 Surf Dancer

Punters get excellent value for Surf Dancer in the Rowley Mile. The imported son of Lope de Vega has had two starts in Australia for two solid performances, so he is progressing nicely and the rise in distance only helps his chances. He comes off a fourth at Randwick behind Mirra Vision where he carried 59kg, so dropping to 54kg is ideal.

We can’t believe punters are getting double-figure odds for a talented runner like Surf Dancer. He gets an economical run from barrier three and Tim Clark is one of the better tactical riders in Australia. Surf Dancer goes on top, and we expect his odds to firm on race day.
