Gosford Racing Tips 27.08.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Gosford hosts a Friday meeting on August 27, and we have our best bets. Premier jockeys James McDonald and Tim Clark have a fantastic book of rides, so we are following their rides with interest. Our four runners all have upside this spring.
  • Race 1 12:45pm AEST – No. 1 Pleading
  • Race 3 1:55pm AEST – No. 1 Centro Storico
  • Race 4 2:35pm AEST – No. 10 Raging Bull
  • Race 7 4:25pm AEST – No. 3 Head On Up

Race 1 12:45pm AEST – No. 1 Pleading

Pleading is shooting for her fourth consecutive win after scoring at Muswellbrook, Taree, and Tamworth. The Angela Davies-trained four-year-old finished third on debut before heading for a spell, and she has fired up since resuming. She scored the latest win on a good surface, but her wins at Muswellbrook and Taree came on rain-affected ground.

She has scored all three wins by over a length, including a two-length win at Taree. That form bodes well and getting James McDonald in the saddle from the inside barrier is ideal. $1.85 is a short quote, but she demands attention in this field, and she has a Highway Handicap win in the near future.

Race 3 1:55pm AEST – No. 1 Centro Storico

Richard Litt lines up the three-year-old filly that has yet to win or place from five attempts. However, she has faced some of the best age-group thoroughbreds in Australia. She finished 2.7 lengths behind Four Moves Ahead at Randwick before running fifth behind Arcaded at Rosehill. Her most recent run came at Randwick behind Jamaea, who ran in stakes company last Saturday.

She finished second in a recent trial behind Ballistic Lover, which is stellar trial form. We thought she would be an odds on favourite, so we’re more than happy to take the $3.20 available with bookmakers.

Race 4 2:35pm AEST – No. 10 Raging Bull

David Payne lines up the three-year-old gelding that has run third in both career starts to date. The son of Bull Point ran third behind Cape Breton on debut at double-figure odds before running third behind Royalzel, which has since performed at a high level in Sydney. That run holds him in good stead, and it came on a rain-affected track, so she handles the conditions.

After opening at $4.40, we’re not surprised his odds have firmed to $3.20. That is a sizable move, but he is the best runner in the race and the in-form Tim Clark takes the ride, which adds to her appeal. Expect the $3.20 to firm into around $2.50 when the race starts.

Race 7 4:25pm AEST – No. 3 Head On Up

Team Freedman lines up the four-year-old mare that is knocking on the door after consecutive placings. She has finished in the money in six of her eight starts, including a win earlier in her career. Her last two placings came at Wyong and Goulburn, and she was beaten by only a narrow margin last time out Goulburn.

The daughter of Headwater has finished second in all three starts on a soft track, so conditions are right up her alley. Barrier two should see her lob into a good position and it’s another good ride for Tim Clark, who could have a big day.
