Racing was at Flemington on Saturday March 8 for a 10-race programme that featured the All-Star Mile and the Newmarket Handicap.
  • Race 2, Ottawa Stakes, Group 3- 2YO Fillies (1000m)- Pure Passion
  • Race 6, All Star Mile, Group 1 (1600m)- Atishu
  • Race 7, Kewney Stakes, Group 2- 3YO Fillie (1600)- Treasurethemoment

Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the meeting.

Race 2, Ottawa Stakes, Group 3- 2YO Fillies (1000m)- Pure Passion

The two-year-old fillies lined up in the Ottawa Stakes early on the Flemington programme and it was a win by the Ciaron Maher-trained Military Tycoon. Pure Passion ran on for 3rd and might the improver out of the race. The Moody/Coleman galloper began awkwardly and lost ground at the start before working into it and producing the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m of the entire meeting. She wont be a maiden for too much longer.

Race 6, All Star Mile, Group 1 (1600m)- Atishu

Atishu showed she is on track for a crack at the Australian Cup (2000m) later this month with her performance to place 5th in the All-Star Mile. The Chris Waller mare was slow to begin and settled back on a very slow tempo in the early stages. She was doing her best work late with the second fastest last 200m behind the eventual winner, Tom Kitten. The seven-year-old has an excellent record at Flemington over the 2000m and will be hard to beat at the venue on March 29 in the Australian Cup.

Race 7, Kewney Stakes, Group 2- 3YO Fillie (1600)- Treasurethemoment

Treasurethemoment was arguably the most impressive winner on a day that was highlighted by a similar effort from Is It Me earlier on, while Joliestar and Tom Kitten took out the two Group 1 races. Treasurethemoment stepped out at Group 2 level and was dominant, producing the best benchmark figures for the day by going a whopping 15.8 lengths faster than standard benchmark with her win ahead of Too Darn Lizzie. She looks like she can measure right up to them in Sydney and will head towards the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.
