Echuca Racing Tips 26.08.2021 - Spring contenders in action

Echuca hosts a Thursday meeting on August 26, and we have our best bets available. Our picks feature mostly maiden runners, but they have bright futures and could contest the early spring features in Melbourne next month.
  • Race 1 12:30pm AEST – No. 2 Linas Legend
  • Race 2 1:00pm AEST – No. 9 Capella
  • Race 3 1:30pm AEST – No. 3 Foturi
  • Race 8 4:00pm AEST – No. 9 Litermont

Race 1 12:30pm AEST – No. 2 Linas Legend

Linas Legend looked good when placing in both runs last campaign and we’re surprised he’s not shorter with bookmakers. The three-year-old colt finished second on debut at Caulfield behind Generation, before running third behind Blushing Tycoon in a tough race at Flemington.

Running second behind Generation is an extremely good form guide. Generation was unbeaten before finishing close behind the winner last start. It’s spring form lines, and Linas Legend should appreciate dropping to maiden grades for this contest. He showed his class again when running a half-length behind Blushing Tycoon at Flemington. That run came in May, so he hasn’t had a long time off and that will prepare him beautifully for this contest.

Race 2 1:00pm AEST – No. 9 Capella

Japanese form is never easy to decipher, especially at the maiden level. However, this isn’t a strong maiden field and she looked good in a recent jumpout at Flemington. The daughter of champion thoroughbred Orfevre had high expectations in Japan, but it didn’t come fruition. She has since been sold to Australian interests with the intention to improve her form quickly. Her jumpout at Flemington is a step in the right direction.

The five-year-old wasn’t asked for much and still ran second under her own steam. That’s an encouraging sign having not raced for over a year. She is a risk, but the early betting moves are a good sign.

Race 3 1:30pm AEST – No. 3 Foturi

Team Hawkes lines up the four-year-old that should be winning this preparation. The son of Star Witness finished second on debut against a tough field at Sandown, which should be a good form guide for this spring. He then ran third at Pakenham as a $1.40 chance, and although beaten, it was only by a half-length in a driving finish.

This stable knows how to prepare their maiden runners, and after opening at $2.15, most of the early money come his way. $1.90 isn’t groundbreaking value, but we expect the odds to firm to around $1.60, so it could pay to lock in the odds available.

Race 8 4:00pm AEST – No. 9 Litermont

Litermont is trying to remain unbeaten after winning on debut at Bairnsdale. This is a sharp rise in class, but the Freedman-trained filly looks to have a bright future. She scored by a half-length earlier this month, which was a nice hit-out on debut. It should only make her stronger and there has been excellent betting support in both runs to date.

Having Damian Lane in the saddle is a bonus and the well-bred daughter of Cable Bay could continue her unbeaten run. She only needs a touch of luck from barrier eight to be fighting out the finish at Echuca.
