Coffs Harbour Racing Tips for 5.8.2021 - Back form runners

Get our best horse racing bets for Coffs Harbour on Thursday, August 5, where we have found four of the best provincial circuit runners that handle rain-affected tracks. Our runners are in exceptional form this preparation and we're expecting that to continue.
  • Race 1 12:15pm AEST – No. 1 Buck Pharoah
  • Race 3 1:25pm AEST – No. 2 Mikado
  • Race 5 2:40pm AEST – No. 16 Ausbred Cooee
  • Race 6 3:15pm AEST – No. 1 Chasing Comets

Race 1 12:15pm AEST – No. 1 Buck Pharoah

Punters have to take short odds for Buck Pharoah, but the three-year-old is clearly the horse to beat. The son of American Pharoah owns two wins and four placings from six starts, so he is yet to finish worse than third and that’s not easy to do. His fresh up win at Taree came on a heavy track, and although conditions are improving, he won’t mind what condition the track plays.

He has track experience with a win and a placing, with his most recent run coming at Coffs Harbour. Buck Pharoah was only a short margin behind the winner as the odds-on favourite, so punters get an excellent chance to get their money back.

Race 3 1:25pm AEST – No. 2 Mikado

Mikado hasn’t done much wrong this preparation and he could get back to his best on Thursday. The four-year-old son of Exceed and Excel scored consecutive wins at Grafton and Lismore before finishing a half-length behind the winner at Taree last start. He couldn’t quite make it three wins on the bounce, but finishing second behind McNair is a good effort for this level of racing.

Drawing barrier 16 won’t help his chances, but he has time to find cover over the mile and he has an experienced jockey in the saddle. Punters get each-way odds worth taking and we would be surprised if Mikado didn’t feature in the placings.

Race 5 2:40pm AEST – No. 16 Ausbred Cooee

The four-year-old son of Fiorente enters with consecutive wins and we were impressed with his maiden win at Coffs Harbour. He scored by 4.5 lengths to escape maiden grades and the rise in class didn’t worry him last time out at Grafton. He scored by 3.3 lengths when stepping up to the mile, so rising to 2005m looks ideal on Thursday.

Ausbred Cooee gets down in the weights at 55kg and drawing wide in barrier 12 won’t have an impact over this distance. Jockey Jon Grisedale should put him in a lovely spot and running in wet conditions is ideal. We expect another top effort and punters get odds worth taking.

Race 6 3:15pm AEST – No. 1 Chasing Comets

Looking to go back-to-back is Chasing Comets, who scored by 5.8 lengths in emphatic fashion at Scone. The five-year-old carried 61kg to victory and he produced the goods with ease, which bodes well for this contest. He owns three wins from 16 starts and his recent win should give him plenty of confidence for the rest of the winter. His best form comes on rain-affected tracks, so he’s running out of time to cash in.

The Paul Perry-trained runner gets conditions to suit at Coffs Harbour and Mikayla Weir is riding well enough to get the job done. We’re surprised by the current odds available and we thought he would be shorter. Punters could get $2.50 on race day, so take the current odds.
