Adam Cusworth picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Caulfield on October 19.
  • Race 2, Gothic Stakes, 1400m (Listed, 3yo)- Lovelycut
  • Race 4, Ethereal Stakes, 2000m (Group 3, 3yo fillies)- Femminile & Inevitable Truth
  • Race 5, Alinghi Stakes 1100m (Listed, fillies and mares)- Pondalowie
  • Race 7, Millenium Sprint 1000m (Group 2)- Rey Magnerio

Race 2, Gothic Stakes, 1400m (Listed, 3yo)- Lovelycut

Nice return by Lovelycut in the Gothic Stakes for the three-year-olds. The Reece Goodwin-trained galloper was resuming from a spell and stepping straight to the 1400m. She settled last in the field of eight before working home very nicely to land less than half a length behind Lofty Arch. The daughter of Ilovethiscity looks to be a strong Thousand Guineas (1600m) prospect and will head to the Caulfield Group 1 via a 1400m race at Flemington

Race 4, Ethereal Stakes, 2000m (Group 3, 3yo fillies)- Femminile & Inevitable Truth

The fillies lined up in the Ethereal Stakes and it was a win by Too Darn Discreet in the VRC Oaks (2500m) lead up. Liked the work of a couple that ran home well in Femminile (3rd) and Invincible Truth (4th). Femminile settled handy and grinded home to finish within a lenght of the winner, while Inevitable Truth produced the fastest last 200m. The latter is a Maiden but looks like she can stay all day and looks a solid prospect for the Oaks at Flemington later on.

Race 5, Alinghi Stakes 1100m (Listed, fillies and mares)- Pondalowie

Nice performance by Pondalowie in the Alinghi Stakes. The four-year-old was rising sharply in grade after a BenchMark 64 win at Bendigo over the 1100m and settled back in the field of nine but couldnt quite reel in Niance. The Emma Lee & David Browne-trained galloper missed by less than half a length, producing the fastest last 200m and the second fastest last 200m of the entire meeting. She is likely to head to the Flemington straight during the carnival at headquarters and was a strong winner over the 1100m earlier in the year.

Race 7, Millenium Sprint 1000m (Group 2)- Rey Magnerio

He has gone five runs without a win but Rey Magnerio definitely has a race in him at the business end of the carnival. The five-year-old was runner-up in the Alinghi Stakes behind Estriella and was a bit of an unlucky runner, held up at a vital time before running on and just missing in a photo finish. Keen to see this boy at Flemington, where he was a winner on Champions Day last year.
