Ballarat Racing Tips for 10.08.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Racing in Victoria continues with an eight-race card at Ballarat on Tuesday, August 10, and we have our four best bets for the premier card midweek card, including a former Hong Kong runner and a six-time local winner.
  • Race 2 1:30pm AEST – No. 4 Marimenko
  • Race 4 2:30pm AEST – No. 11 Mt Buller
  • Race 5 3:00pm AEST – No. 1 The Mobot
  • Race 7 4:00pm AEST – No. 5 Zoudini

Race 2 1:30pm AEST – No. 4 Marimenko

Team Hawkes lines up the five-year-old gelding that didn’t fire on debut in Hong Kong, but he has been the subject of a significant betting move. The son of Zoffany finished 13th at Sha Tin after some average trial efforts, but after opening at $6, he firmed two points to $4. That is a big betting move for a Tuesday and it demands attention.

We have seen Hong Kong form stack up nicely in Australia and he looked good running second in a recent jumpout at Flemington. That should top him off nicely for this run and his odds could firm even shorter as casual punters take note. Expect a positive outing for Marimenko.

Race 4 2:30pm AEST – No. 11 Mt Buller

Mt Buller showed significant improvement when running third at Ballarat and having experience on this track only adds to his appeal. The Hayes-trained three-year-old didn’t fire on debut at Flemington behind Ingratiating, but that was a strong stakes-grade contest and he was always going to struggle at that level.

He was well-backed at each-way odds last time out and running only 2.6 lengths behind the winner was a solid return to racing. The well-bred son of Exceed and Excel could be in for a successful season and drawing barrier two only helps his chances. We’re not surprised by the money coming for the favourite.

Race 5 3:00pm AEST – No. 1 The Mobot

The Mobot has been a consistent performer for punters and she is worth backing again. The five-year-old owns six wins and five placings from 17 starts, so she rarely runs a bad race and her recent form has been exceptional. The daughter of Uncle Mo scored by 2.8 lengths on this track three back before winning again last time out by 1.3 lengths.

Dropping in weight to 54kg after the 4kg claim is ideal and she won’t have much trouble finding a good position from the inside draw. The $2.15 will firm on race day, so take the odds available.

Race 7 4:00pm AEST – No. 5 Zoudini

Consistency is with Zoudini, who has figured in the finish in five of his six starts. The Lindsay Smith-trained son of Zoustar won at Ballarat two back by 2.5 lengths and he justified the betting support at $2.45. He wasn’t able to follow it up with a win last start, but winning that race was My Boy Birmingham, who has since run well in Saturday company.

Getting 2kg off his back helps and although drawing barrier nine could make it tricky, he owns good barrier speed. Punters should expect the apprentice to find a forward position and Zoudini can do the rest.
