Race 2 1:30pm AEST – No. 6 Lady Cumberland
The three-year-old filly is getting close to breaking through after finishing second on debut and following it up with four consecutive fourths. She has been right around the mark without winning, including finishing 1.5 lengths behind the winner at Moe last time out.
There was plenty of betting support for her on that occasion and she has been smashed in betting again. Her opening odds of $3 have been taken and with the addition of the 2kg claim from Josh Richardson, she should be competitive and go close to finally breaking her maiden status on Tuesday.
Race 4 2:30pm AEST – No. 5 Keep Ya Distance
Keep Ya Distance has yet to win from nine starts, but the three-year-old gelding meets a field there for the taking. The son of Reliable Man owns four placings and the latest came at Ballarat when finishing a half-length behind Za’ex, which is solid enough form for this level of racing.
He is in good hands with team Ellerton/Zahra and although he’s yet to race at Ballarat, there isn’t much difference between it and Pakenham. Conditions should be ideal for the favourite and we expect the big betting moves to come on race day. He could start as the odds-on favourite as there are no legitimate contenders coming up against him.
Race 6 3:30pm AEST – No. 1 Rebellious Lord
Experience is with Rebellious Lord, which has turned his form around this preparation. The seven-year-old scored a win at Ballarat three starts back when getting the better of Yulong Patrol, which was a nice way to get back into a winning groove. He followed it up with consecutive second placings behind some smart types, including a close finish behind Show Some Decorum.
The son of Rebel Raider does his best racing at this track and distance, which bodes well. He missed a placing only once from four attempts at Ballarat and punters have come for him in early betting markets. He opened at $4.40, so it has been a steady market push and the 3kg claim helps. It brings his weight down to 62kg, which is manageable against this level of opposition.
Race 8 4:30pm AEST – No. 1 Roddandtodd
The son of Charge Forward isn’t the most consistent type going around, but he owns plenty of pace on his day. He scored a narrow win at Ballarat three starts back when carrying 63.5kg and although he carries the same weight here, he shouldn’t find this field too much harder. His form since has consisted of consecutive fourths and he was only a half-length behind the winner last start.
2kg comes off his back and we’re surprised at the odds available with bookmakers. He opened at double-figure odds and has rightfully been backed since. We wouldn’t be surprised if his odds continued to firm, so punters should take the value available. He is capable of winning over this distance and he can handle this field if he gets a good run in transit.
